Coordinator - Low Incidence Supports

Under the direction of the director of compliance and due process, supervises the staff and coordinates the daily activities of the low incidence supports unit (Autism, Pal, Life Skills, ED, DHOH and Vision). The coordinator is responsible for developing strategies and implementing departmental procedures to ensure students with disabilities receive appropriate supports and services as identified on their individualized education program (IEP).


Essential Functions



  • Manage and monitor the dissemination of technical assistance and guidance materials to ensure consistent implementation of policies and regulations by all school employees including teachers, related service providers and administrators as it relates to students with IEPs.
  • Works collaboratively with the Coordinator-Special Education Academic Supports to provide technical support to schools in the development, implementation and monitoring of high-quality instruction based on standards-based IEPs.
  • Develops and delivers professional development that provides school staff with the knowledge and skills needed to ensure students with disabilities received appropriate supports and services.
  • Analyze data and monitors students' progress and the development and implementation of quality standards-based IEPs.
  • Consults with IEP Teams and area-based staff and assists in curriculum development and implementation.
  • Conducts school visits and monitors support visits of Low Incidence staff.
  • Prepares and submits appropriate written reports of monitoring and supportive activities conducted.
  • Provides knowledge of content, curriculum, assessment, and instructional strategies to accelerate learning for students pursuing certificate of completion and/or a diploma track.
  • Monitors the use of assistive technology in the learning environment to support with disabilities
  • Serves as a liaison between Maryland State Department of Education and City Schools.
  • Serves as a liaison between schools, parents and community stakeholders.
  • Provides consultation and professional development in behavior management techniques.
  • Performs and promotes all activities in compliance with equal employment and nondiscrimination policies; follows federal laws, state laws, school board policies and the professional standards.
  • Utilizes resources appropriately to complete work in the most efficient manner; proactively communicates the status of work; participates and contributes fully as a team member; and exercises sound judgment and decision-making skills to resolve sensitive matters.
  • Collaborates with various offices and school-based staff to plan, manage and execute the implementation of behavioral and social/emotional strategies
  • Maintains confidential and sensitive information.

  • Skill in research, presenting, and explaining policies and procedures, assembling data, preparing complex reports, and formulating and presenting recommendations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively.
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with school system employees and managers at all levels, as well as government agencies and community stakeholders.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize changing assignments, and organize busy workload, meet deadlines, and work well under pressure, while exercising excellent attention to detail.
