Description

The Children's Home of Poughkeepsie has been caring for children throughout the Hudson Valley for over 175 years! We strive to empower children and families to achieve optimal health and well being. We are currently seeking a Maintenance Worker to work in our Operations Department.

Position Summary: Will perform basic maintenance tasks as required at any agency location.

Standard Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday, including on-call responsibilities

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:




  • Operate all agency vehicles including cars, minivans and pick ups



  • Operate snow plow and sander equipped vehicles as needed during winter months.



  • Operate in a skilled manner all lawn maintenance equipment including zero turn mowers.



  • During winter weather, snow blowers.



  • Negotiate stairways and tight areas while carrying and relocating residential furnishings as well as office furniture.



  • Assist in the food service delivery tasks of the kitchen staff.



  • With a brief description able to perform routine tasks with little or no direct supervision.



  • Responsible for assessing tasks assigned and determining level and type of resources, staff or contractor to satisfactorily complete the task.



  • Be alert to determine and identify necessary repairs and inform your supervisor.



  • May perform tasks at any location operated by the agency with transportation provided by the agency.





Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:




  • Have the requisite skills and ability to perform all identified duties and responsibilities as stated above.



  • Capable of performing maintenance tasks from a step ladder no higher than 8 feet.



  • Basic skills in building maintenance and repairs



  • Ability to complete all documentation electronically or on paper form as required to monitor the status of all ongoing tasks assigned.



  • Able to utilize manual outdoor task tools in a safe and efficient manner.

Qualifications

MINIMUM Qualifications:





  • High School Diploma or Equivalent



  • At least 1 year of experience working in a Child Welfare or residential setting



  • Valid NYS Driver License in good condition as determined by the Agency



  • Must complete and pass a pre-employment physical, PPD and drug screen and an annual physical and PPD




Physical Demands and Work Environment:




  1. Must be able to remain in a stationary position for an extended period of time



  2. Must be capable of lifting forty pounds alone.



  3. Capable of vigorous physical activity



  4. Able to safely operate an agency vehicle in accordance with NYS motor vehicle law



  5. Safely operate specific machinery (lawn mower, plow, kitchen equipment)



  6. Ability to negotiate step ladders not in excess of eight feet.
