Under general supervision, maintain mouse colonies including all aspects of breeding, timed breeding, preweaning, weaning, aging and sexing and retiring for mouse colonies. Observe, report, and treat clinical health deviations. Describe phenotypes and collect and submit samples for proper genotyping. Interpret genotyping results to select the proper mice for breeding and shipment. Support importation/rederivation and assist with reproductive requests, including identification and recording of various stages of reproduction (estrus selection, vaginal plug identification, and palpation of pups), chimera and founder identification, and superovulation injections. Perform basic husbandry skills including transport of clean and dirty supplies, room environmental checks, cage servicing, animal welfare observations, and colony health (sentinel program and routine health screens). Enter colony management data into several computerized formats; communicate colony updates to supervisor, MBP core lab supervisors, UCD investigators and off-site clients on routine basis. Assist with breeding and research project management. All of the aforementioned duties may be required at a BSL1 or BSL2 level. Position Information
