Pay Grade/Pay Range: Minimum: $16.63 - Midpoint: $19.95 (Hourly N3)

Department/Organization: 204411 - Biological Sciences

Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 4:45pm

Job Summary: The Research Technician uses fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of a particular field of specialization to perform varied scientific research tasks of moderate complexity requiring application and adaptation of established techniques, procedures, and criteria.

Additional Department Summary: Supports the teaching and research missions of the Department of Biological Sciences. Provides cultures and demonstrations for use in microbiology teaching labs and for micro-organisms grown on diagnostic media. Assists in the preparation media and supplies required for culturing bacteria.

Required Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED and four (4) years of research support experience; OR associate's degree and two (2) years of research support experience; OR bachelor's degree and some research support experience.

Skills and Knowledge: Ability to work independently and collaboratively with other microbiology staff. Ability to work in an environment that sometimes requires the ability to lift and move heavy supplies/equipment and perform other physically taxing duties such as standing for extended periods and repetitive movements. This job involves frequent exposure to chemicals, bacteria, and other hazards including glass test tubes, heat sources, electrical equipment and other instruments requiring careful use.

Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Biology or Microbiology and two (2) years of experience involving research in a biological or microbiological setting, utilizing microbiological techniques and applications.
