The Opportunity:

The Applications Programmer I position works in a collaborative environment serving the needs of digital learning at UCF. Along with seasoned and talented junior developers, the team member will contribute to the overall strategic, standards-based software programming and architecture of instructional technology applications/projects in support of teaching, learning, and departmental operations. Below are the essential duties of the position, but additional duties might be required for the goals and successful delivery of the online learning mission.

This is an auxiliary funded position. Employment is subject to availability of funding and may cease at the time funding for this employment is depleted.

Responsibilities:


  • Design, code, test, debug, integrate, modify, and document features/functionality in online courses as well as in existing or new applications for teaching and learning.

  • Assist with the implementation of user experience designs, database, and back-end to support digital learning applications.

  • Assist senior developers with analysis and troubleshooting of issues in features associated with online courses, applications, websites, or utility tools in support of digital learning.

  • Provide end-user support in collaboration with senior developers, support staff, via faculty development venues, and co-authoring of technical documents.

  • Research and recommend improvements to applications/technologies based on industry standards in support of digital learning.

  • Provide necessary data and reports of different supported web-based solutions for team, departmental, and teaching and learning custom-developed apps.

  • Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree; or High School Diploma (or equivalent) and 4 years of relevant work experience in lieu of degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Prefer candidates with bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, information technology, engineering management, information systems or digital media.

  • Documented experience with all phases of applications programming using front-end, back-end, and database technologies like HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Python, Ruby, PHP, PostgreSQL, and MySQL.

  • Documented experience with programming frameworks such as Flask, Django, Rails, Symphony, Express, Backbone, React, Angular, and Laravel.

  • Documented experience developing and deploying applications on Linux/Unix web servers and cloud infrastructures like AWS.

  • Documented experience developing unit tests and continuous integration practices.

  • Documented experience with all phases of applications development compliant with industry standards and Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team.

  • Experience with mentoring, providing documentation and end user support.

  • Good oral and written communication skills. Ability to participate in multiple projects effectively.
