Clinical Nurse II (CLIN NURSE 2)-Radiation Oncology

Clinical Nurse in Radiation Oncology will provide patient care for patient populations ranging from pediatrics to geriatrics, with patient acuity ranging from general outpatient to inpatient ICU ventilated populations. Patient conditions include benign and malignant hematologic and solid tumor diagnoses seen within a variety of sub-specialties to include but not limited to: Brain, Breast, Gastrointestinal, Gynecologic, Head and Neck, Thoracic and Urologic specialties.

Provides direct patient care to a diversified patient population. Applies knowledge, experience and judgment to determine the importance of a situation, set priorities, and use abstract thought to evaluate clinical situations. Participates in patient and staff education. Demonstrates leadership skills. Demonstrates accountability for own practices as defined by the Nurse Practice Act.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Four (4) years medical/surgical nursing experience or Two (2) years of outpatient case management experience.
  • Valid California Registered Nurse License without restriction
  • American Heart Association (AHA) BLS CPR or UCDH-issued CPR Certification
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
  • Ability to utilize medical terminology appropriately.
  • Knowledge of current trends in nursing.
  • Commitment to excellence in patient care.
  • Effective interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrates accountability and professionalism.
  • Adapts to change in a positive, professional and productive manner.
  • Knowledge of legal implications in clinical practice and documentation.
  • Knowledge of performance improvement and evidence-based practice.

  • Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care, taking into consideration protective interventions, development (behavioral and physical) and physiological characteristics specific to the patients.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) or Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certification (ONS/ONCC) Certification
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
  • Recent RN experience in pediatrics
  • Ambulatory/ Outpatient Nursing experience
  • Radiation Oncology experience
  • Case Management experience
  • Wound Care

The UC Davis Radiation Oncology department provides sophisticated radiation therapy services and clinical care. Our radiation oncologists subspecialize in different tumor types and use state-of-the-art technology to provide compassionate care to patients. In particular, the UC Davis Radiation Oncology department is recognized as a national leader in advanced technology and treatments using IMRT, IGRT and 3-D conformal radiation therapy for many types of cancers.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Has mandatory reporting responsibilities for domestic violence, child abuse and elder/dependent abuse.
  • Ability to safely lift 25 pounds and assist in moving patients, and to stand on feet over extended periods.
  • Works overtime as defined by the collective bargaining agreements; floats to other areas; and works weekends, holidays and call as required.
