As soon as June 14, 2024. Degree requirement must be completed by June 13, 2024, for employment effective June 14, 2024, and beyond. Position duration:
Initial appointment will be for one year, with the possibility of reappointment. Should the hiring unit propose reappointment; a review to assess performance will be conducted. Reappointment is also contingent upon the availability of funding. Application Window Open date: April 18, 2024 Next review date: Monday, May 20, 2024 at 11:59pm (Pacific Time) Final date: Monday, Sep 2, 2024 at 11:59pm (Pacific Time) Position description The hiring unit, within the Biomolecular Engineering Department at UCSC focuses on research and education at the intersection of biology, computer science, and engineering, to drive advances in areas such as genomics, synthetic biology, bioinformatics, and biomolecular modeling. Under the direction of Assistant Professor Russell, the research specialist will contribute towards genomic data production and analysis, Drosophila maintenance, and Wolbachia and Drosophila candidate gene testing through confocal imaging and cytological analysis. An ideal candidate would have general knowledge in molecular biology, genetics, genomics, cell biology, developmental biology, and bioinformatics (e.g., bash, python, common bioinformatics software for short read alignment and analysis). Special consideration will be given to candidates with any of the following areas of expertise:
