Independently observe, interpret, and respond to telemetry waveform data; maintain records and documentation of waveforms in patient's medical record. Report changes in rate/rhythm to nurse and/or physician for urgent and/or non-urgent intervention; these actions have direct and immediate impact to patient outcomes. Maintain operation of Central Monitoring station and monitoring software system in collaboration with Clinical Engineering. Coordinates availability of transmitters, lead cables and other monitoring supplies. Assigned responsibility for training/education nurses new to telemetry waveform assessment strategies; provides orientation to the Central Monitoring station operations and equipment to nurses new to the unit.

Minimum Qualifications

  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) or UC Davis Health CPR
  • Recent experience as an EKG Telemetry Technician
  • Ability to assess and interpret EKG telemetry waveforms and observation data.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language and clearly convey information and explanations to patients, visitors, and staff personally or by telephone/intercom.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology sufficient to interpret and understand the basic issue regarding patient's diagnosis and treatment plans that impact on EKG waveforms.
  • Knowledge of legal implications in clinical practice and documentation.
  • Knowledge of performance improvement and evidence-based practice.
  • Computer skills to use Central Telemetry Monitoring Systems and unit level computer systems and printers.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
  • Visual acuity to observe central monitoring screens and interpret fine print/lines of EKG strips.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with nursing and medical staff and staff from other departments
  • Ability to maintain records and logs in a complete and accurate manner.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Cardiographic Technician (CCT) issued through Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) or Certified Rhythm Analysis Technician (CRAT) issued through Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI)
  • American Heart Association (AHA) ACLS CPR Certification strongly recommended
