Pay Range Information
Chapman University is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this position. This range takes into account a variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. Salary offers are determined based on the final candidate's qualifications and experience, as well as internal equity and other internal factors. The anticipated pay range is not a promise of a particular wage.
Position Summary Information


Job Description Summary
The Marketing Strategist is responsible for researching, developing and communicating comprehensive strategic marketing plans as needed to meet the goals of the university, including (but not limited to) areas of fundraising, engagement, recruitment, and reputation. The strategist collaborates with creative team leads to optimize marketing efforts for campaigns, provides service-oriented planning and analysis of campaigns, and coordinates marketing and communication activities as assigned. This position reports to the Director of Marketing in Strategic Marketing and Communications ( SMC).
Responsibilities
Marketing Development

  • Serve as the liaison between internal teams and assigned campus partners
  • Support marketing & communications functions across campus.
  • Development of annual, audience-driven and/or event-based strategic marketing plans, including some or all of the following:

    • Identifying goals and setting key performance indicators (KPIs)
    • Research and data analysis
    • Media planning and budgeting
    • Creating and presenting creative briefs, recaps, and other reports



  • Monitor, review and report on pertinent marketing activities
  • Research and understanding of advertising options, including print, outdoor, email, social and digital
  • Media vendor relationship and planning processing
  • Troubleshoot problems that arise in the marketing process to ensure compliance and project professionalism
  • Maintain files and information on contacts, solution descriptions, active projects, website content, etc.
  • Represent the university at various events, organizations and associations for the purpose of cultivating relationships

Market Research and Data Analysis

  • Work with Director of Marketing on market research efforts that provide information for decision-making
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of audience lifecycles, journeys, and personas
  • Become familiar with research tools, and use those tools to conduct discovery and provide synthesis and analysis on consumers, categories, brands, markets, industry trends, etc.
  • Measure the success of communication efforts including auditing and assessing communications' vehicles
  • Collaborate with and present data to university stakeholders

Brand Championing and Advocacy

  • Act as a steward of the Chapman University brand
  • Provide feedback to university partners on language and design layout of marketing material
  • Communicate updates of marketing materials to university clients prior to publishing

Support other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in English, communications, marketing, business, public relations or related field required, or an equivalent combination of education and job-related experience
  • Minimum 2-4 years of experience in a marketing, communications or advertising role
  • Proven ability to plan, prioritize multiple projects, and complete them in a timely manner
  • Understanding of customer and market dynamics and requirements
  • Strong writing and editing skills, including the proven ability to prepare and proofread clear, concise and grammatically correct business correspondence and other documents
  • Excellent skills in organizing and planning, problem analysis and problem solving
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a diverse group of individuals at all organizational levels, both inside and outside the university
  • Strong technical skills to learn enterprise systems, software and tools
  • Ability to demonstrate tact and diplomacy and maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Ability to use standard office equipment, including multi-line phone system, copier, fax and calculator
  • Strong commitment to customer service and teamwork
  • Knowledge of marketing principles and concepts

Desired Qualifications

  • Ability to follow policies and procedures for Chapman University and the department; able to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
  • Comfortable with formal/group presentations; persuasive, adaptable, stress-tolerant
  • Experience in higher education, specifically in marketing/communications or advancement
  • Experience in media selection and negotiation
  • Experience with digital marketing and advertising
  • Entrepreneurial, self-starter with good communication skills
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in a marketing role responsible for client relations and/or media planning
