Manager, Business Intelligence and Data Science (Internal Audit)

Overview

To plan, manage, and direct data analytics and data science functions for Navy Federal's Internal Audit department. Manage and coordinate the development of analytics and technology solutions that drive more efficient and effective audit coverage across the organization. Develop and maintain data and analytics project roadmaps for the department in alignment with the annual risk assessment and audit work program. Investigate and champion new technologies and methodologies in data engineering, visualization, and analytics. Orchestrate the implementation of strategic programs that uplift the Internal Audit department's technical skillsets, enable complete and consistent access to data, and drive more continuous assessments of processes, risks, and controls through analytics. Serve as a subject matter expert regarding Navy Federal business functions, systems, data, and databases. Manage daily activities of the data analytics team. Support Internal Audit executive leadership in developing and executing strategic plans through insights and technical solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and lead business intelligence development, including requirements gathering, design, production implementation and maintenance
  • Oversee project management of multiple reporting, dashboard development, ad-hoc analysis and data initiatives
  • Optimize business operation performance by analyzing current and forecasting future performance to support strategic initiatives
  • Evaluate/develop/implement analytical techniques and best practices to gain a competitive advantage
  • Maintain understanding of business direction, environment and strategies and work closely with stakeholders to ensure analytic output addresses business needs
  • Lead team to mine large datasets for new sources of information to better understand drivers of performance
  • Collaborate with ISD to design and build the technology infrastructure necessary to achieve data-driven analytic solutions
  • Partner with internal business partners and external vendors to ensure successful data integration/engineering, and data warehousing
  • Ensure that data processing standards, guidelines, procedures, controls and best practices are followed across the department
  • Develop dashboards leveraging best practices in data visualization and champion the use across the department
  • Manage the collection, correlation, analysis, and reporting of data and studies of organizational information to drive operations, business decisions, and mitigate risk/loss
  • Manage the maintenance of databases to ensure operational efficiency and reduce operational risk
  • Identify and resolve operational and performance gaps and obstacles; develop and implement changes and improvements
  • Oversee the development of reports and solutions to establish and strengthen system controls, facilitate process management, data reconciliation, to improve services and products
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of and ensure compliance with applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations and NFCU policies and procedures
  • Develop and maintain team-specific components of the Division Annual Financial Plan (AFP)
  • Lead or participate in organization-wide project teams; monitor projects assigned to the department and ensure milestones are completed on schedule
  • Partner with senior management to ensure internal/external regulatory exam preparedness
  • Develop and implement new/updated policies, procedures, goals and priorities as necessitated by demands, changing conditions, and/or management request
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Advanced working experience with SQL, Power BI, Python and R
  • Advanced working experience with ETL processes
  • Advanced knowledge of Statistics (Descriptive and Prescriptive)
  • Knowledge of risk management (Operational Risk, ERM, Internal Audits, etc.
  • Advanced knowledge of applicable federal and state, laws, rules and regulations
  • Extensive progressively responsible experience leading and managing an analytics operation in a large financial institution, including operational and regulatory risks and controls
  • Advanced knowledge of database technologies (Azure, MS SQL, Teradata, etc.)
  • Knowledge of predictive modeling (regression, decision trees, etc. )
  • Knowledge of machine learning
  • knowledge of any of the following: financial accounting, cost accounting, budgeting principles and practices, statistics, finance, and/or mathematic modeling
  • Advanced knowledge of banking/financial industry trends, products and services
  • Advanced knowledge of the concepts of asset-liability management
  • Extensive experience demonstrating thought-leadership, initiative-taking, decision-making and creativity solving business problems
  • Extensive experience managing multiple priorities independently and/or in a team environment to achieve goals
  • Extensive experience in working with all levels of staff, management, stakeholders, vendors
  • Extensive experience supervising and leading professional employees
  • Expert organizational, planning and time management skills
  • Expert research, data mining/querying, analysis, and reporting skills, including proficiency in sophisticated statistical methods and modeling, forecasting, and cost/benefit/risk analysis
  • Expert skill in results-oriented leadership in a challenging environment
  • Expert skill in project management to include establishing and leading project teams; managing timelines/deadlines/resources; ensuring successful project implementation
  • Expert skill presenting findings, conclusions, alternatives and information clearly and concisely
  • Expert skill in producing desired results and achieving goals and objectives
  • Expert skill to influence, negotiate and persuade to reach agreeable exchange and positive outcomes
  • Expert verbal and written communication skills
  • Expert database, word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software skills
  • Master's degree in a Finance, Business Administration Operations Research, Statistics, Engineering, Computer Science, or related field, or the equivalent combination of training, education and experience
