Symetra has an exciting opportunity to join our team as an Associate High Yield Credit Analyst with a hybrid schedule!

About the role

The Associate Credit Analyst role requires 0-3 years of experience preferably in credit research, equity research, investment banking or private equity. The Associate Credit Analyst will be an integral member of the newly formed High Yield and Bank Loan group in SIM. The team invests in high yield bonds, bank loans, derivatives and other credit instruments. The Associate Credit Analyst will work closely with senior analysts on the team to develop the necessary skillset to perform extensive fundamental credit analysis, and advance to being responsible for single name views and sector coverage on corporate issuers in the US High Yield and Leveraged Loan markets. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, intellectually curious, enjoys an innovative and collaborative environment, has a basic understanding of investment concepts with excellent analytical, writing, communication and computer skills. CFA is a plus.

What you will do



  • Evaluating company fundamentals and industry trends, key operating metrics, business quality, competitive positioning, and valuation.
  • Developing investment theses and recommendations on single names, working with portfolio managers to monitor and rebalance the portfolios.
  • Identifying investment ideas across a companies' capital structure on primary and secondary opportunities.
  • Writing research reports on single names and identifying sector trends and outlooks.
  • Performing due diligence on corporate borrowers including analyzing credit agreements, attending management meetings with corporate borrowers, investment banks and other company stakeholders as required.
  • Talk directly with members of issuers' management team as part of due diligence process.
  • Focus initially will be on trade support through the entire trade lifecycle - which includes trade entry, addressing trade breaks, reporting.
  • Updating and enhancing models and screens.
  • Developing relationships with operations, reporting, and compliance to ensure efficient resolutions of issues.
  • Gathering and disseminating new issue and market news/events.
  • Develop an understanding of fixed income trading, trade protocol, trading platforms and tools, best execution.
  • Develop relationships with our trading counterparties.
  • Eventually backup senior trader on trade execution.

Compensation

Salary Range: $110,300 - $183,800 plus eligibility for annual bonus program

Who you are



  • BA/BS required. Open to working toward CFA designation.
  • Candidate will have 0-3 years of experience preferably in credit research, equity research, investment banking or private equity.
  • Analytical, quantitative and basic financial modeling skills.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Detail oriented with good organizational skills.
  • Excellent computer skills and proficient in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word. Familiarity with Bloomberg a plus.
  • Interest in and ability to work collaboratively and collegially both within a team and across various teams within a broader investment organization.


Note: This position is in Farmington, CT and it will be a hybrid work environment.
