POSITION: Lead Nurse, Camp

REPORTS TO: Senior Director, Camp and Community Services

STATUS: On-Call Non-Exempt to Seasonal Full-Time Exempt

Will be needed as soon as possible on-call to help with planning, but will be

needed Full-Time, when summer camp is in session, roughly between

Sunday, 6/16/23-Thursday, 8/15/23. Final dates will be confirmed at offer.

OVERVIEW:

As the Lead Nurse at Enchanted Hills Camp, you will play a pivotal role in managing the camp's health and safety program. Your responsibilities include overseeing the Health Center, providing medical care to campers and staff, administering medication, and ensuring compliance with documentation standards. This position requires a compassionate individual who is dedicated to creating a safe and enriching environment at Enchanted Hills Camp.

QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Registered Nurse or equivalent,
  • Ability to practice in the State of California.
  • Flexible schedule.
  • Minimum 2 years' previous experience as a camp nurse, especially at a special needs camp, is preferred.
  • Familiarity with medications.
  • Hospital experience is preferred.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification required.
  • Knowledge of the American Camping Association Health and Wellness standards.
  • At least 1 year previous experience working with people with disabilities is preferred.
  • Excellent working skills, including communication skills, organizational skills, and attention to details.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Collaborate with camp leadership to create and implement health and safety protocols.
  • Establish and document standard operating procedures for the nursing office.
  • Oversee the preseason set-up and the postseason closing of the Health Center, including performing an opening/closing inventory of all supplies and equipment, and ordering supplies/equipment as needed and approved.
  • Assess and assist with the health and hygiene needs of campers.
  • Administer medication and treatment to campers throughout their stay at camp.
  • Identify pertinent camper medical needs (caution sheets, special diets, etc.) and ensure that this information is communicated with the appropriate camp staff.
  • Provide proper nursing intervention regarding camper and/or staff illness, condition, or emergency care, and make appropriate referrals, providing follow-up care as warranted.
  • Administer immediate first aid to injured parties, perform nursing assessments, and implement nursing intervention as guided by nursing judgment.
  • Keep records regarding the administration of medication, prescribed treatments, and other health and medical needs. Follow state standards and ACA standards in maintaining such records.
  • Make rounds throughout the camp, checking on campers, staff, and the health and safety of the camp in general. Report facility and grounds health risk factors.
  • Complete and follow up on incident reports.
  • Supervise and coordinate other nursing staff.
  • Willingness to perform other related duties as assigned.



PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:



  • Ability to physically assist campers with mobility impairment.
  • Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid. Must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) and possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers.
  • Ability to sit at a desk and perform computer-intensive work for extended periods daily.
  • Must be able to independently travel to all LightHouse campuses and throughout the community as needed.
