Job Summary

This position performs duties necessary to treat patients in accordance with the physician\u2019s order and departmental policy. Works independently in all acute and critical care settings. Consults with physicians and other personnel and makes recommendations on treatment as appropriate. Must possess skills necessary to treat patients of all ages to include infants, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. All team members are expected to be knowledgeable and compliant with Prisma Health values of compassion, dignity, excellence, integrity, and teamwork.

RTs assigned to this job code have committed to accept assignments where they will work a full-time or part-time status with shifts on every weekend (starting Friday at 7:00pm through Monday at 7:30am).

Accountabilities

  • Acts independently to perform respiratory therapy general and critical care procedures in accordance with the physician\u2019s order, departmental policy, and Respiratory Care guidelines or protocols. - 30%

  • Able to obtain blood gasses from all sites.\u00A0 Analyzes and reports results accurately. \u2013 10%

  • Able to initiate, monitor and manage patients requiring all types of invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation. - 20%

  • Able to initiate and manage all types of airways and associated equipment. - 10%

  • Accurately and completely documents and charges for all respiratory care procedures and tasks and provides patient and family education as appropriate. - 10%

  • Effectively communicates with all members of the healthcare team to include students and nurse shadows. Provides an accurate and complete report.\u00A0 Makes recommendations as appropriate.\u00A0 Communicates well with supervisors, coordinators, or those acting in lieu of the above. \u2013 10%

  • Adheres to infection control and quality initiatives.\u00A0 Performs appropriate cleaning/disinfection and sterilization of equipment between patients as indicated by equipment type and isolation status. - 10%\u2002\u2002\u2002\u2002\u2002

  • Acts as a good steward of resources, including supplies, time/productivity, etc. \u2013 10%

Minimum Requirements

Associate's Degree - Graduate of a Respiratory Care Program by an accredited school

In Lieu Of

In lieu of associate degree will consider diploma and/or experience.

Required Certifications, Registrations, Licenses

South Carolina Respiratory Care Practitioner license

Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)

BLS

NBRC (credentials must be maintained)

Other certifications dependent on work unit : NRP, PALS, ACLS, NPS

ACLS required within the first year for adult care areas

NRP and PALS required in the Children's Hospital prior to working independently in the NICU and PICU
