Service Assistant Professor, Department of Hematology and Oncology

West Virginia University (WVU) School of Medicine, located in Morgantown, WV, seeks an innovative, dynamic, and collaborative researcher and mentor to serve as Service Assistant Professor in the Department of Hematology and Oncology in the Cancer Institute

The Department of Hematology and Oncology has outstanding clinical, translational and basic science research programs with several investigator initiated clinical trials and established human tissue collection protocols. This researcher will join an established group of lung cancer researchers to develop an independent research program focused on developing novel strategies for the treatment of lung cancer. Translational research is also supported by close ties with the Clinical and Translational Science Institute, Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute, and Vaccine Development center as well as P20 Center of Biomedical Research Excellence grants in Tumor Microenvironment. Department faculty hold extramural research support from NIH, DoD, regional and national foundations, and industry.

Duties of the position include support of existing projects with transition into development of an independent research program with a planned focus on lung cancer. The researcher is expected to expand the research profile of the department by increasing research productivity through submission of publications, presentations and grants. Further, they will enhance training for our Oncology Residents and cancer biology graduate students by providing hands on technical support, guidance for existing projects and participation in research curricula.

Qualifications

Candidates must hold a Ph.D. or M.D. degree in the fields of Microbiology, Immunology, Cell Biology or a related STEM discipline and have five (5) or more years of post-graduate research experience. Demonstration of successful collaboration and excellent communication skills is expected and will allow the researcher to leverage existing collaborative opportunities within the Health Sciences Center and across the University campus, and to communicate effectively with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community. Additional qualifications include: plans for active research program, proven record of teaching and mentoring of students at the undergraduate, graduate and professional levels, and commitment to cross-disciplinary team-building. The successful applicant will possess academic credentials that merit appointment as a Research Assistant Professor.
