Job Summary

This position entails supporting externally funded research projects throughout the research lifecycle, under the supervision of the Principal Investigator, research project manager, and research team. The primary responsibilities of the bilingual Vietnamese research analyst include conducting research, gathering and analyzing complex data, synthesizing issues, and presenting them in a creative and accessible manner. The analyst will also solicit and incorporate critical feedback on deliverables and provide such feedback to other staff and stakeholders in a cooperative manner.

In addition, the analyst supports the development and implementation of both in-person and online community outreach presentations at various community partner organizations, with a focus on the Vietnamese-speaking Vietnamese American community. This includes collaborating with team members to create materials such as presentations, outreach materials, and generating data findings for both internal and external dissemination. The analyst also assists in the maintenance of research-related databases and the management of research data associated with these projects. To ensure the success of all projects and deliverables, the analyst must document their processes and methodologies, validate data and other content of work products prior to presentation or distribution, and engage in professional development and other duties as needed.

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Department Description

The Department of Community Health Systems, housed within the UCSF School of Nursing, promotes and sustains health in the community and workplace, with emphasis on culturally diverse and high-risk populations. The department partners with community-based organizations in the San Francisco Bay Area in order to meet the need of reducing health disparities both locally and globally.

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • May have basic knowledge in data collection and analysis techniques.
  • Must have effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Requires active listening, critical thinking, good interpersonal skills and ability to multi-task.
  • Solid ability to present information in a clear concise manner verbally and in writing.
  • Understanding of organizational rules and regulations.
  • Able to provide good judgment, decision-making, and problem solving.
  • Able to creatively solve problems and provide on the spot solutions, especially when working with vulnerable populations.
  • Good time management, excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Self-starter, team-player, flexible, demonstrates a cooperative spirit, demonstrates cultural sensitivity, possesses diplomacy skills
  • Fluent or Proficient in a Vietnamese language in reading, writing, and speaking
  • Computer competency in MS Word, Excel, Access, and webinar platforms required.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Master's degree in public health and/or equivalent experience/training
  • Competency in programs such as Stata, SPSS or SAS.
  • Competency in REDCap and/or Qualtrics.
  • Experience working in a research setting and/or demonstrated experience in public health.
  • Experience working with Asian Americans and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islanders in a programming capacity.
  • Experience working in a community based and academic setting.
  • Demonstrated experience building relationships with community/nonprofit organizations in the San Francisco Bay Area community.
  • Past experience building capacity at an organizational level.
