Position Summary

The Office of Clinical Experiences and Partnerships at Metropolitan State University of Denver (MSU Denver) invites applications for part-time University Supervisors of Student Teachers and Residents.

MSU Denver enrolls over 16,000 students, where nearly 60% are first generation and over 55% are students of color. Located in downtown Denver, we are a designated (HSI), an INSIGHT into Diversity Higher Education Excellence in Diversity () Award winner for 10 consecutive years, and the only certified institution in Colorado. As the third largest institution of higher education in Colorado and the only institution with an open access mission, MSU Denver is a model university for today's college students. The University serves the most diverse undergraduate student population in the state, as well as the most first-generation students and Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals students. MSU Denver is particularly interested in applicants who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and a demonstrated commitment to improving access to higher education for under-represented and historically minoritized groups.

Responsibilities

Serve as University Supervisor for teacher licensure candidates in student teaching and/or residency assignments in K-12 Art, Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education, Early Childhood, Elementary, Music, Physical Education, Secondary Education (English, Math, Social Studies, Science), Special Education, and/or World Languages.

For Student Teaching Supervisors working with single-semester Student Teachers, this includes:

  • Observe, coach, and evaluate teacher candidates' performance in student teaching/residency placements
  • Conduct 3-4 site visits over the 16-week placement for observation, coaching, and assessment; complete mid and final term evaluation
  • Facilitate 4 hours of regularly-scheduled student teaching seminars across the semester, often in collaboration with faculty and/or other supervisors
  • Guide and evaluate students' work on the required Collection of Teaching Artifacts and Reflections final project
  • Maintain close communication with the Office of Clinical Experiences and Partnerships (OCEP) throughout the semester
  • Attend professional development and training sessions for University Supervisors University Supervisors must be available for school visits during the school day and must be available for communication with OCEP and assigned student teachers no later than August 1st (fall semester) or January 2nd (spring semester)

Please Note: The responsibilities for supervising in the year-long Elementary Residency program are similar to those for Student Teaching yet follow a different timeline. An affiliate faculty member's duties include but are not limited to: teaching assigned classes in person or online by delivering course content to students, preparing course materials and lesson plans, grading student work, providing students with robust feedback in a timely manner, addressing student questions consistent with university, college/school, and department policies, and providing online or in person academic support to students as needed and appropriate for the teaching assignment; providing instruction in assigned classes consistent with the content and learning objectives of the regular course syllabus and, if required, with department course coordination policies; maintaining office hours; and complying with university-wide student evaluation of instruction policies and peer observation policies.University Supervisors have the privilege of working with diverse groups of individuals. Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Education or related field
  • Teaching experience in public or private school settings

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree, plus 30 semester hours of relevant post-degree study
  • Teaching experience in content area of Supervision
  • Supervisory/Coaching experience (e.g. as a principal, department chair, instructional coach, or as a previous mentor teacher/cooperating teacher).

Terms of Employment

Affiliate faculty are part-time, at-will employees hired to teach on a per credit hour basis for specific classes, usually on a semester-by-semester basis. Affiliate faculty are not eligible for benefit coverage under the University's benefit program. All such teaching assignments are dependent on budget and enrollment.

Qualified candidates will be expected to teach in person and/or on campus upon hire.

Salary for Announcement

The final salary is based on the number of credit hours assigned at a rate determined by university policy.
