Learn more about the UC Office of the President DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW UC Legal - Office of the General Counsel (UCL) provides legal services to the university, including representation, advice, research and training. We also provide legal opinions to the Board of Regents, administration, faculty, staff and others acting on the university's behalf. We report jointly to the Board of Regents and the president. POSITION SUMMARY Under minimal supervision, has a high degree of knowledge in the overall paralegal field and recognized expertise in specific area(s). May manage programs that include formulating strategies and administering policies, processes, and resources; functions with a high degree of autonomy. Develops and oversees the implementation of new programs and processes. Provides guidance and supervision to other paralegal personnel. 60% Assist with document collection, review, and production in connection with external or internal document demands or requests or in connection with security breach incident responses, including:
Relevant areas may include Health, Litigation, Internal Investigations and Cybersecurity. 25% * Support counsel with transactions in the acquisition, joint ventures process, including tasks such as monitoring and administrating the e-room.
10% * Manage databases, litigation templates and brief banks. * Assist the Risk litigation program with various administrative tasks. 5% * Conduct advanced research on legal and policy issues with summaries. * Interact with all levels of University of California staff and external clients in the gathering of information and fact checking. Experience * Minimum of 7 years of relevant work experience Preferred Qualifications * Minimum of 4 years of Litigation and/or Health Law Skills and Abilities * Thorough knowledge in one or more practice areas. Preferred Qualifications * Thorough knowledge of UC processes, protocols and procedures. * Experience in eDiscovery platforms such as Relativity and/or Logikcull * Advanced research, analytical / problem-solving skills. * Skills to plan and develop data management systems and procedures. * Advanced communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all levels of staff and influence, both verbally and in writing. * Excellent project management skills. * Ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes. * Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality. * Experience with Requests for Proposals from vendors in the eDiscovery space Education * Associate degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training * Bachelor's degree in related field and/or Paralegal Certificate Licenses and Certifications
SPECIAL CONDITIONS This position has been approved for a hybrid work arrangement. A new hire will be required to report to work onsite in Oakland, CA at least 2 days per week (currently Tuesday and Wednesday). Remote candidates residing in or willing to relocate to California may be considered.
