What You'll Do in This Position

Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL) is a multi-program laboratory applying state of the art science and practical, high-value, cost-effective solutions to complex technical problems to protect the nation. Located at the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Savannah River Site (SRS) in Aiken, SC, the laboratory develops and deploys innovative technologies to address some of the nation's environmental, energy, and national security challenges.

Situated on the outskirts of South Carolina, Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL) is located approximately 20 minutes from Augusta, Georgia (home of the annual Master's Tournament) and 30 minutes from Fort Gordon (home of the new US Army Cyber Command). The complex is one-hour away from Columbia, South Carolina and within a three-hour radius of Charleston, South Carolina, and many of the coastal beaches. Aiken is known for its famous thoroughbred horses, southern hospitality, growing community, thriving school district, numerous parks and golf courses, great weather, spacious avenues, and historical large and impressive homes.

Savannah River National Laboratory is seeking an Accounting Analyst to join a dynamic team to work in the Accounting Division of Business Services. This position with be assigned to Travel Group.

The ideal candidate will serve as the subject matter expert on travel processes, business rules, and systems. Responsible for providing integrated support to the travel audit and travel reservation functions, and interfacing with staff on all travel-related issues.

Duties and responsibilities include:

* Oversite and guidance of the travel audit process including providing work direction.
* Oversite and guidance of the travel reservation process.
* Perform various operations supporting the travel function, including, approval of travel requests and other deviations from standard travel requirements, travel system testing, periodic reporting, etc.
* Development and maintenance of BSRA policies and procedures for travel consistent with applicable federal regulations, Department of Energy requirements, and BSRA prime contract clauses.
* Research and interpret applicable regulations and requirements and provide timely and professional guidance to SRNL staff regarding travel issues.
* Continually seek ways to increase operational efficiencies and to improve travel systems in support of SRNL's research mission.
* Ensure proper internal controls are established and monitored.
* Interface with DOE, Inspector General, internal, and external audit staff involved in travel-related audits and other requests for information.
* Participate and/or lead travel meetings with travel staff, BSRA staff, and DOE Travel Managers.
* Provide customer service and travel training to the travel population.

Qualifications We Require

* Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance and at least two (2) years of experience in Accounting or Finance.
* Requires proficiency in applying accounting principles, policies, procedures, and knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
* A basic knowledge and understanding of personal computers utilizing any of several generally accepted software applications to perform word processing, database management, spreadsheet, and graphic functions.
* Communicate effectively (both oral and written) with accounting team members, internal company customer organizations, and external customers to resolve issues in general finance areas.
* Exhibit good oral and written communication skills to effectively and accurately present information and express ideas.
* Display interpersonal skills to maintain positive working relationships through cooperation and open communication.

Other Qualifications

Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE security clearance.

Qualifications We Desire

* Master's degree in Accounting or Finance and at least five (5) years of experience in Accounting or Finance.
* Advanced proficiency in applying accounting principles, policies, procedures, and knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
* Advanced knowledge and understanding of personal computers utilizing any of several generally accepted software applications to perform word processing, database management, spreadsheet, and graphic functions.
* Advanced travel related experience and knowledge of government travel regulations (FAR, FTR, GSA, etc.)
* Communicate effectively (both oral and written) with accounting team members, internal company customer organizations, and external customers to resolve issues in general finance areas.
* Exhibit good oral and written communication skills to effectively and accurately present information and express ideas.
* Display interpersonal skills to maintain positive working relationships through cooperation and open communication.
