Position Summary:
The School of Applied Engineering and Technology (SAET) of the Newark College of Engineering at NJIT invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in its Built Environment Division, specializing in Construction Engineering Technology (CET), and Concrete Industry Management (CIM) with the expectation of a joint appointment in the John A. Reif Jr. Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE). The Built Environment Division administers several degree programs in these areas and enjoys support from the concrete and construction industries. In addition, laboratories and experimental facilities that allow extensive experimentation for student instruction and for graduate-level research are available. By the time of appointment, the successful candidate must have earned a Ph.D. (or equivalent) degree, with a record of pertinent high-quality research.

Areas of research and academic interest of particular relevance include, but are not limited to, the following focus areas: * Evaluation of material properties including mechanical, durability, volume change and performance of various concrete and concrete composites. * Development of sustainable construction materials including waste and recycled materials. * Multi-scale properties of concrete structures. * Performance and nondestructive assessment and sensing of infrastructure components and systems. * Corrosion and deterioration of reinforced concrete and steel structures. * Construction engineering and safety. In addition, knowledge of and experience in construction field operations for both heavy highway and building construction, experience in construction estimating and scheduling, as well as, a working knowledge of the application of construction codes and regulations, knowledge and experience in sustainability in construction operations are a definite plus.
At over 900 students, the SAET has one of the largest undergraduate enrollment within the Newark College of Engineering. An outgrowth of the former Department of Engineering Technology, the SAET is well known for providing a balance of theory and hands-on education. The NJIT campus is located in Newark, which is the largest city in New Jersey, and only 12 miles away from New York City. The state of New Jersey is home to a large number of industries, including several Fortune 100 and 500 companies.

Essential Functions:
The successful candidate is expected to carry out high quality scholarly research and collaborate with other faculty and researchers, both within NJIT and in other institutions. The successful candidate should have a clear plan to establish a vibrant research program, secure external research funding, and participate actively in guiding, educating and teaching undergraduate and graduate students. The teaching and student advising duties of the appointed faculty member would be divided between the CET and CIM programs, which reside in the Built Environment Division of the SAET, and the Civil Engineering program, which resides in the CEE department.

Prerequisite Qualifications:
By the time of appointment, successful candidates must have earned a Ph.D. (or equivalent) degree, with a record of pertinent high-quality research. In addition, the successful candidate should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
Applicable industrial experience and prior teaching experience are highly desirable.
