Job Overview

The Director Labor Relations is accountable for developing, managing and implementing cohesive, comprehensive labor relations strategies, processes, and practices. The Director ensures alignment of business and labor strategies as well as effective execution and compliance by working closely with, advising, and consulting other business partners and functions. The role is ultimately accountable for the successful, efficient, effective, legal implementation of labor relations activity, including strategy formulation and design, collective bargaining and contract administration, and promoting positive employee relations.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Leads the formulation, development, and execution of overall labor strategy directly and through the Employee & Labor Relations Business Partners
  • Aligns business and labor strategies to ensure timely execution of business priorities.
  • Develops and manages labor relations programs to enhance and sustain organizational vitality and to manage ongoing change.
  • Works with senior leadership and business partners to determine/develop needed maximum workforce productivity, efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Consults, advises and educates senior leadership on all labor relations issues of strategic importance.
  • Leads strategic planning process for contract negotiations (timing, business processes, language and economic direction, preparation, contingency, etc.) in partnership with operational, human resource, legal, public affairs functions.
  • Leads an efficient and cost-effective process to manage and administer Coca-Cola Consolidated's collective bargaining agreements.
  • Partners with Employee Relations to lead Coca-Cola Consolidated's positive employee relations efforts and enables the embedment of a culture of active employee engagement and positive manager communication.
  • Partners with the operations to ensure effective business continuation planning processes and tools - pre-planning, logistics, personnel pool, accounting and payroll, overall communication during work stoppage, etc.
  • Works with the legal department and employment practices COE partner as well as outside counsel to ensure all labor-related legal issues are handled cost-effectively and appropriately.
  • Develops (builds capability), leads and directs ELRBPs, HRBPs and other COEs' staff to facilitate objectives and improve performance and potential in the area of labor and solutions.
  • Maintains and manages productive, efficient and cost-effective relationships with Coca-Cola Consolidated stakeholders, relevant government bodies (NLRB, DOL, etc.), key union leadership and labor relations service providers/supplies.
  • Helps develop and maintain an effective organizational structure within the HR department that reflects future operational needs.
  • Remains current with key state/provincial and federal labor/employment and benefit laws and legislation.
  • Tracks labor-related results and expenses for Coca-Cola Consolidated.
  • Prepares budgetary recommendations that meet HR department goals and provide for effective management of resources.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Human Resources or related field, or the equivalent work experience
  • 8-10 years or more of relevant Labor Relations experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Juris Doctorate with specialization in Labor Relations
  • 10+ years with 3-5 years managing directly and indirectly in a supervisory capacity
  • Private sector experience in manufacturing, distribution, and/or food services industry

Work Environment

Normal office environment, occasional extreme hours resulting from negotiations and/or travel schedules; occasional exposure to extreme temperatures and noises resulting in time spent in the operations facilities

This position can sit in Cincinnati or Columbus, OH.
