This position will work Monday through Friday 7:00 am to 3:30 pm at Lake City Army Ammunition Plant in Independence, MO. The starting wage is $18.00 per hour.

The Finished Goods Forklift Operator reports to the shift Supervisor. The job duties consist of loading pallets of product into over the road trailers. Government shipments require each pallet to be wood framed and braced to prevent any pallet movement in transit. The Operator is also responsible for the accurate storing, shipping and receiving of product to meet company standards of safety, security and productivity.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Shipping/Receiving
Load, unload and properly document outbound shipments.
Staging
Move product to staging area with proper equipment and efficiently arrange the merchandise in the warehouse how it will be loaded into the trailer.
Order Lot Verification
While staging ensure that each pallet contains the proper lot number for each unit of ammunition.
Equipment
Operate material handling equipment in a safe and efficient manner. Complete the Forklift Daily Inspection Form prior to use. If unsafe to operate - tag equipment "out of service" until repairs are completed. Operate RF units.
Checking
Check and count freight for accuracy, damage and infestation. Document and report damaged product to warehouse management.
Safety, Sanitation, Security
Participate in safety meetings. Maintain a clean, neat and orderly work area. Assist in maintaining the security of the warehouse. Conduct operations in a manner which promotes safety.
Framing
Following the Load Pattern, move the verified pallet into the trailer. Use 2x4 lumber, nails and carpentry tools to build a frame around the bottom of the pallet securing it per the Standard Operating Procedures.
Miscellaneous


  • Participate in physical inventories.
  • Perform labeling, sorting, wrapping, packing and repacking as needed.
  • Repair pallets when necessary.
  • Clean railcars, trailers and truck bays as requested.
  • Perform other miscellaneous duties as required.


QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Citizenship: Must be a United States Citizen.
  2. Criminal Background and Pre-Employment Drug Test: Clean lifetime criminal history and pass drug test is mandatory. COVID-19 vaccinated preferred but not required.
  3. Education (preferred level): High School diploma or GED.
  4. Experience (the minimum level of direct experience in a similar position): One to three years working in a similar warehouse environment operating similar forklifts.


Knowledge/Experience/Skills:


  • Must speak, write and read English.
  • Must write legibly.
  • Count accurately and do simple math.
  • Must know how to operate a fork lift safely.
  • Must be able to perform basic carpentry.
  • Able to follow directions and working responsibly by oneself.
  • Have PC keyboard skills.
  • Great people skills and ability to work with people from different backgrounds and levels.
  • Experience with Warehouse Management Systems.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:


  • Ability to stand, sit, squat, crawl, bend, twist, reach and/or kneel for up to 12-hour periods of time and repetitively.
  • Exposure to varying temperatures: heat, cold, wet, damp, drafty.
  • Work around hazardous materials and may be exposed to carcinogens, toxic, and explosive materials.
  • Work on concrete and unlevel surfaces.
  • May be required to climb ladders and stairs.
  • Possible exposure to areas with high noise levels that may require hearing protection..
  • Use hands and fingers to grasp, turn, and manipulate objects of varying sizes and weights.
  • Utilize muscles to lift, push, pull or carry heavy objects up to 50 pounds.
