About the Job

Duties & Responsibilities

* As the leader of a dynamic multidisciplinary team, the ARC Medical Director is responsible for partnering with the management team in organizing and directing physiatry services on the unit, in agreement with all applicable federal, state, and local laws and standards, and rules and regulations
* The Medical Director will work closely with leadership and staff team members to develop, monitor, and maintain performance metrics, process improvement, and quality and safety metrics
* Liaise with hospital teams about critical needs - e.g., capacity issues, etc.
* Represent the ARC during hospital meetings and disseminate information to problem-solve issues on the ARC
* Assists with regulatory, compliance, and reimbursement appeals
* Assist with preparation for, and participate in, regulatory visits
* Provide at least 20 hours of service per week to the rehabilitation center and patients
* Serve as a role model in setting a standard for delivery of patient-centered, comprehensive rehabilitative care
* Forge partnerships, establish trust, and build strong relationships with referring departments and units to achieve top performance in patient experience and outcomes
* Participate in call coverage at the acute rehabilitation unit on a rotating basis
* Grow an outpatient practice, if desired
* Close all patient encounters before eight (8) calendar days

As a member of a multidisciplinary team, the candidate will join an active academic physiatry clinical practice and a growing academic department. Faculty members mentor residents, fellows, medical students, and allied health professionals; including teaching, training, and general supervision in a clinical setting. Academic track and rank are determined by the applicant's qualifications and interests. Academic time is used to pursue scholarly work in the candidate's area of specialty/research expertise. Faculty will be active in their national organizations and foster an academic environment.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

Physiatrists must be a graduate of an accredited PM&R residency training program, be board-certified or board-eligible with the American Board of PM&R (ABPM&R), have at least two (2) years of training, or experience, in the medical management of inpatients requiring rehabilitation services, be eligible to obtain a Minnesota Board of Medical Practice license, and meet threshold criteria/qualifications for credentialing and privileges. Applicants must possess the skills to manage change and communicate effectively in a rapidly expanding department. Enthusiasm, a collaborative nature, and an interest in cultivating a thriving academic rehabilitation program are essential to the success of the department and the ARC.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Experience collaborating with individuals across multiple departments, practices, and health systems.
* Previous experience with, and knowledge of, CMS rules and regulations.
* Previous experience as an inpatient rehabilitation facility medical director.

The Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, Division of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R), at the University of Minnesota announces an outstanding opportunity to join a dynamic and growing academic medicine department as the Medical Director of a 30-bed, CARF-accredited, comprehensive inpatient rehabilitation facility (IRF) within a large, academic healthcare center.

The M Health Fairview Acute Rehabilitation Center (ARC) is a CARF-accredited Comprehensive Medical Inpatient Rehabilitation and Stroke Specialty Program. Common diagnoses include stroke, brain injury, debility/complex medical, spinal cord injury, cardiac/pulmonary, orthopedic, other neurological conditions, and limb loss. Candidates have an opportunity to grow an outpatient practice, if desired.

As the ARC Medical Director, the candidate's responsibilities will include serving as a clinical leader to help ensure that exceptional patient care is delivered by fostering positive collaboration among care teams through open communication. The ideal candidate will have experience providing leadership in the inpatient setting, driving performance of key clinical metrics, and treating complex medical conditions.
