Accounting Manager

It's actually no secret at all; we simply find and invest in good people.GEICO's corporate office in Chevy Chase, Maryland is seeking a current CPA to join us as an Accounting Manager for the GAAP/Investment team within the Controllers Department. The team is responsible for investment and GAAP reporting to Berkshire Hathaway as well as responsible for the preparation of the audited statements for GEICO's benefit plans and philanthropic entities.

This position will require an in office presence 2-3 times a week, and more often during certain months of the year.

Job duties and responsibilities:

  • Managing and training a team of professional accountants
  • Overseeing the monthly investment accounting process
  • Reviewing financial statements
  • Reviewing reconciliations
  • Reviewing accruals
  • Managing the audited financial statement process for various entities
  • Interpreting new accounting pronouncements
  • Proposing process improvements

Candidate qualifications:

  • CPA license is REQUIRED
  • At least five (5) years of accounting experience, preferably preparing and reviewing financial statements for a large corporation.
  • Public accounting and experience researching accounting pronouncements are both a plus. Background in investment accounting is preferred but not required
  • Previous proven experience managing a team
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills (vlookup, pivot table, VBA, queries, etc.)
  • Detail oriented and highly analytical
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Previous experience with insurance accounting preferred
  • Familiarity with Peoplesoft or Workday Financials general ledger applications preferred
  • StatementPro or Wings Annual Statement reporting software experience preferred
