DATA ENGINEER, Brain and Cognitive Sciences, to serve as data engineer for the , a collaboration with the Neurosurgery Department at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) that creates opportunities for ethical and innovative human basic and translational intracranial neuroscience research, with a focus on robust data standards and sharing policies. Responsibilities include building data sharing policies, enforcing compliance, and identifying further avenues for collaboration; data warehousing; developing and overseeing protocols for secure and HIPAA-compliant data transfer; building tools to automate data collection, deidentification, and preprocessing steps; creating, maintaining, and modifying dashboards built on a SQL engine to query metadata; training lab members on leveraging the AWS infrastructure; logging, maintaining, and executing access to all computational resources; aiding the development of a new MIT course based on human intracranial data; and performing other duties as needed.


Job Requirements

REQUIRED: master's degree in computer science, computational neuroscience, statistics, or similar field; proficiency in at least one of the first three and working knowledge of all the following languages--MATLAB, Python, R, Unix shell, and/or SQL; proficiency with Git and ability to assist with implementation across lab members; experience with data warehousing, both with onsite servers and cloud-based integration services such as AWS, slated for continuous improvements in functionality, infrastructure, and workflow operations; ability to document procedures/protocols and use good coding practices; working knowledge of HIPAA policies and clinical data sharing compliance requirements; familiarity with basic neuroscience research; a desire to contribute to translational neuroscience; attention to detail; and ability to work independently and with a team.
