Clinical Nurse Supervisor
The Johns Hopkins University Student Health & Well-Being (SHWB) practice group supports well-being, primary care, and mental health services for JHU students and learners across all nine schools within the University. Our integrated service delivery model provides dynamic health and well-being promotion, support and programming, student disability services including guidance and resources, and in-person primary and mental health care options at our clinics as well as remote support through phone and online resources.

We are seeking a Clinical Nurse Supervisor for the full-time position in the Homewood office with a requirement for availability to travel to other Baltimore area campuses and to the DC campus for service delivery and in-person meetings, when necessary. This may include being available on evenings and weekends for extended clinic hours, outreach programs and crisis or emergency response.

The Clinical Nurse Supervisor works collaboratively within a multidisciplinary health team to optimize patient outcomes and is responsible for providing comprehensive and age-appropriate primary care to the students/learners of Johns Hopkins University.

*This is a 1.0 FTE full-time exempt position, reporting directly to the Nurse Practitioner Manager.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities
  • Supervise Homewood clinic Nurses (2) and Medical Assistants (4); activities to include recruitment, selection, training, scheduling, supervision, and evaluation.
  • Deliver care that is culturally competent, affirming of a wide range of student/learner identities, and promotes the diversity, equity and inclusion values of the SHWB practice.
  • Systematically record information in an electronic health record in accordance with state and federal medical/legal requirements.
  • Comply with state, federal and ambulatory accreditation requirements, and policies within SHWB.
  • Next business day follow-up of students mentioned in reports including those from: Hopkins Emergency Response Organization, Security, Access Nurse, or other after-hours calls.
  • Triage incoming calls and walk-in students with urgent needs using Triage Protocol.
  • Case management of students referred to JHU Mental Health.
  • Review Pre-entrance Health Forms for incoming students.
  • Attend on campus clinics and provide required immunizations and blood tests as needed.
  • Follow-up on students receiving therapy for latent tuberculosis.
  • Administer allergy injections by utilizing orders from the patient's allergist.
  • Administer immunizations, place PPDs, administer other injectable medications (e.g., Ceftriaxone, Ketorolac, Depo Provera, etc.) by utilizing orders from clinicians or standing orders from the Chief Medical Director.
  • Obtain venipuncture and other specimens as ordered by clinicians as well as outside providers.
  • Perform Point-of-Care labs as ordered by clinicians.
  • Perform minor treatments (dressing change, ear irrigation, nebulization treatment, crutch / cane fitting, suture removal, etc.)
  • Weekly review of Radiology Workplace and Cardiology Procedures for outstanding reports, provide clinicians with feedback on outstanding reports.
  • Monthly review of all Abnormal Radiology/Cardiology reports, follow up with clinicians regarding plan of care for abnormal reports.
  • Perform laboratory quality control procedures for opening the clinic when necessary.
  • Staff an average of one late night clinic per week and 3 Saturday clinics per semester.
  • Attend SHWB meetings and educational opportunities and show evidence of continued self-development and professional involvement by participating in activities and educational programs of professional organizations.
  • Share the responsibility for ongoing assessment of quality and efficiency of patient care services.
  • Attend any University-wide committees as assigned by the Nurse Practitioner Manager.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Nurse Practitioner Manager, Lead Physician, Chief Medical Director or Administrative Manager.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Two to four years' experience working in a college health setting preferred.
  • Two to four years' supervisory experience preferred.
  • Unrestricted registered nurse license or eligible for unrestricted licensure to practice medicine in the State of Maryland. In the future may also need to be licensed in Washington D.C.
  • Eligible for credentialing and privileging through SHWB.


Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk or sit for an extended period of time. Reaching by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction.
  • Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s), for example, using a keyboard.
  • Communication skills using the spoken word.
  • Ability to see within normal parameters.
  • Ability to hear within normal range.
  • Possible exposure to communicable diseases.


Preferred Qualifications

Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated competence in adolescent/young adult health, public health, or college health. Philosophical commitment to the care, development, and education of students.
  • The successful candidate should have experience working with diverse patient populations and appreciate and relate effectively to individuals who hold multiple, intersecting identities including but not limited to historically marginalized and under-represented populations, various ages and developmental status, cultural, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds, international status, disability, gender and sexual identities and presentations.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word and facility in emails is required. Must successfully complete all required and on-going electronic health record and scheduling system trainings as directed. Must complete all required HIPAA, and any other specified online training courses deemed necessary.

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience.
