Application Window Open date: December 14, 2022 Most recent review date: Thursday, Dec 29, 2022 at 11:59pm (Pacific Time) Final date: Friday, Jun 14, 2024 at 11:59pm (Pacific Time) Position description Specialist in Cryo-EM Structural Biology The Institute for Neurodegenerative Diseases (IND) at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) is seeking an outstanding and motivated individual to join our cutting-edge research institute aimed at discovering new therapies for neurodegenerative diseases. The successful incumbent will contribute and help manage our cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) structural biology program focused on deciphering the structural basis for neurodegenerative diseases, including, Alzheimer's disease (AD), frontotemporal dementia (FTD), multiple system atrophy (MSA) and Parkinson's disease (PD). This position is a part of the Institutes broad focus on developing a highly skilled and multidisciplinary team to discover the causes of disease, and develop effective pharmacologic treatments, cures and diagnostic markers for these diseases. The IND cryo-EM facility is state of the art and includes a Titan Krios, Glacios, and L120C transmission EM instruments. Additional advanced instruments including a Krios G4 and plasma FIB-SEM have recently been purchased as a part of plans to develop an additional 3,000 sq. ft. facility in 2022. The IND is directed by Nobel Laureate Dr. Stanley Prusiner and located at the Sandler Neurosciences Center at UCSF's Mission Bay campus, a world-renowned hub of biomedical research and discovery. The successful applicant will be an experienced structural biology researcher with expertise in cryo-EM research and in the operation and support of an electron microscope facility, including personnel training, data collection and processing. They will be responsible for developing and applying these methods and skills to support the operation of the IND cryo-EM facility and ongoing research efforts. This will additionally include collaboration and research with faculty and research teams on groundbreaking projects. Thus, the incumbent will be a skilled communicator with interests in working as a team with members across disciplines at the IND to advance cryo-EM research efforts to understand the structural basis of neurodegenerative disease-relevant protein macromolecules.
