Job Description

John Crane is currently hiring a Global Supplier Quality Engineer in the Chicago area. This position reports directly to the Director of Global Supplier Quality supporting John Crane. This position will execute supply base improvement strategies in coordination with the Director. The QE's goal is to improve supplier quality working towards zero defects through continuously improving supplier's internal processes. The Quality Engineer will develop supplier selection, qualification, improvement and monitoring framework and procedures. The candidate shall drives supplier performance on quality and business continuity by conducting supplier audits. Including the development and implementation of essential global processes through the analysis of global and regionally derived operational and supplier quality data, best practice and benchmarking. This role will working closely with our main US manufacturing site in Morton Grove IL. This will be a Hybrid role with 30% travel required.

Duties & Responsibilities


  1. Elaborate, monitor, analyse and continuously improve the supplier quality performance of the business unit both externally and internally through Performance Excellence activities.
  2. Develop improvement plans utilizing a DMAIC Methodology and guide actions to drive improvement in Supplier's KPIs (key performance indicators), Supplier process capability and Supplier Quality risks
  3. Coach, council, and mentor site level and business unit team, enabling supplier quality system and supplier management and goal improvements.
  4. Lead continuous improvement in Supplier's sites using Lean and Six Sigma methods. Lead and mentor teams in problem solving and root cause identification efforts.
  5. Work with Global Quality Team to identify and implement global best practices.
  6. Manage PPAP, FMEA, Control Plans and other supplier documentation submission for Global Strategic Suppliers
  7. Facilitate and Lead corrective action processes to ensure that identified causes are addressed, and systems are globally improved to prevent recurrence. Assist in new product and process qualifications for both product performance and manufacturability. Support Global Quality teams.

The Individual

Engineering Degree (Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing or Materials preferred) and/or equivalent experience in a related field is required. Advanced Engineering Degree or MBA is preferred.



  • 5 years in Quality related cross-functional experience
  • Experience in related Engineering or Quality field in a manufacturing setting
  • Formal Lean and 6-sigma black belt certifications are strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated performance in quality assurances roles.
  • Communication skills and ability to work independently and achieving objects through influence.
  • Oversight of multisite, multinational environments is preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in lean production process and business process excellence
  • Experience QMS audit processes. Certification as QMS Internal Auditor or Lead Auditor preferred.
  • Knowledgeable and demonstrated experience in the application of Lean and Six Sigma (or other Advanced Problem Solving methodology)
  • Demonstrated knowledge and utilization of quality management tools, such as; Value Stream Mapping, capability studies, MSA, SPC, Control Plans, Kaizen, 5S, Statistical Analysis, SMED, Root Cause analysis tools, Corrective Action Systems, VOC, QFD, Error Proofing, Robust Design, FMEA, BIQ, and Cause and Effect Diagrams.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional high performance teams.
  • Must have solid understand of QMS Processes and ISO 9001 (ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 preferred)
