HR Compliance Manager

  • $80,000 - $90,000 / year plus bonus potential of up to 20%

  • Hybrid work schedule available

  • Must be able to travel up to 50%-60% of the time throughout the US and Canada


Working under the general supervision of the Vice President, People, while also supporting the HR Teammate Relations/Policy Manager, the HR Compliance Manager assists in the development, implementation, auditing, monitoring and evaluation of the Teammate Relations and HR Compliance programs' structure and processes that ensure organizational compliance with applicable federal and state law and Internal policies. Key areas include auditing and monitoring of processes related to recruitment, onboarding, records, reporting, data management, and related areas.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities



  • Oversees the establishment of an effective HR Compliance Program, including identifying potential areas of HR compliance vulnerability and risk and proposing, implementing and providing oversight for all remediation efforts.
  • Manages HR compliance audits, addressing compliance opportunities, issues, and gaps.
  • Establishes and maintains an audit calendar to proactively be prepared for regularly occurring audits and manages all People team responses to audit requests.
  • Prepares and conducts annual and ad hoc internal HR audits in coordination to proactively monitor HR processes.
  • Develops and update applicable policies and procedures, reports and training materials.
  • Assists in proactively informing HR teams and other internal stakeholders of changes in federal/state laws and internal policies.
  • Assists with the administration of labor contracts; provides interpretation of labor contracts to managers, employees and HR staff; oversees processes for review and resolution of employee grievances.
  • Assists managers and HR staff with sensitive labor and employee relations matters, including grievance and arbitration procedures, performance issues and disciplinary actions; advises and assists managers in identifying employee relations issues and determining appropriate course of action.
  • Supports chief negotiator with contract negotiations with recognized employee organizations. Maintains current knowledge of employee and labor relations trends, legal decisions, and statutory changes; conducts research necessary to support contract negotiations and employee relations.
  • Manages the process to investigate and respond to complaints from the Bureau of Labor or other agencies.
  • Ensures management actions are within the bounds set by negotiated agreements, third party agencies and courts, and represents management in all facets of the labor relations process.
  • Meets with labor unions and management to resolve conflicts and negotiate agreements when needed.
  • Researches, investigates and responds to union information requests, employee and union grievances as well as informal complaints and inquiries from union officers/stewards and bargaining unit employees. Performs special projects as needed.
  • All other duties as assigned


  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Human Resources or related field. Relevant experience may substitute for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis.
  • At least 7 years of relevant experience in employee relations, HR Business Partner, or labor/employment law.
  • Highly skilled in workplace investigations, negotiation, and conflict management.
  • Deep understanding of US employment law, EEO regulations, workplace anti-discrimination and accommodations related laws, including Title VII, the ADA, the FMLA and their state law equivalents.
  • Able to maintain confidentiality and exercise extreme discretion.
  • Ability to remain tactful, calm, and persuasive in controversial and/or confrontational situations.
