The ENT/Internal Medicine is a 28-bed medical surgical unit that specializes in pre and post-operative Ear, Nose and Throat Cancers. We are experts of specialized airways like laryngectomies and tracheostomies. We participated in the post-operative care for the world's 2nd tracheal transplant in the world. We also care for complex medical patients DKA, COPD, hypertensive crisis.

Responsibilities
Provides direct patient care to a diversified patient population. Applies knowledge, experience and judgment to determine the importance of a situation, set priorities, and use abstract thought to evaluate clinical situations. Participates in patient and staff education. Demonstrates leadership skills. Demonstrates accountability for own practices as defined by the Nurse Practice Act.
Registered Nurses in the Tower 4 ENT/Internal Medicine/Adolescent department at UC Davis Medical Center provide care to adult and pediatric patients with a variety of surgical (medical surgical, critical care, emergent, perioperative) needs. Patient conditions include: The Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) diagnoses include infections, trauma, birth defects, Zenker's diverticulum, dental abscesses, plastic surgery, tumors- both benign and malignant, degenerative diseases, problems that affect the senses of hearing, balance, taste and smell, functional disorders of voice and swallowing, management of salivary gland disorders, sleep apnea, snoring, and dysfunctions of the facial nerve which controls facial movement. Head and neck cancer diagnoses treated include oral/oropharyngeal cancers involving the lips, tongue, buccal mucosa, retromolar trigone, tonsillary and pharyngeal walls, floor of mouth, hard palate and soft palate, the posterior and base of tongue, tonsillar and pharyngeal walls. Laryngeal cancers and those requiring laryngectomies are also treated on the unit.
