Job Description: The Services to the Armed Forces (SAF) and International Services (IS) mission is to provide care and comfort to the members of the United States Armed Forces and their families. It is the impetus for the establishment of the American Red Cross (ARC). SAF at the Red Cross is a mixture of both tradition and innovation. ARC continues to provide traditional support to military families; serve in military and veterans hospitals, and conduct emergency communication. But, we also continually adapt our traditional services and create new programs to meet the needs of today's military member, veterans and their families. The American Red Cross is currently seeking a full-time SAF-IS Regional Program Specialist to support the Service to Armed Forces and International Services (SAF-IS) missions throughout the Northern California Coastal Region. This position can reside in San Jose or the greater bay area. It is also part of our mobile staff which requires meeting strict medical and security clearances prior to employment. In a mobile role, worldwide deployment is a condition of employment. Mobile staff members typically deploy for 6 months at a time typically, approximately once every 18 months, and can be sent to any military base in the world. The SAF-IS Regional Program Specialist assists in the delivery of American Red Cross programs and services to meet the needs of United States military members, veterans and their families in accordance with Red Cross policies and procedures, but will focused on supporting the delivery of International Services (IS) U.S. programs and services to include International Humanitarian Law (IHL), Youth Action Campaign (YAC) and Restoring Family Links (RFL). This is accomplished through managing volunteers and working with other Red Cross departments to support strong visibility for SAF/IS U.S. throughout the military community in South Florida. The RPS also serves as part of the Hero Care Center Contingency Team. Will act as the first line of supervision and support to provide casework expertise and manage volunteers and other staff members during surge situations and disaster responses. Supports Disaster Cycle Services (DCS) as necessary in accordance with the DCS COOP SAF responsibilities. Maintains deployment readiness at all times by completing medical requirements, clearance requirements and by completing ongoing training requirements to maintain proficiency with casework and relationship management. 6. Reporting & Admin Support: Monitors and reports on American Red Cross Service Delivery Outcomes. Minimum Qualifications Education: Bachelor's degree in related field is strongly preferred, however equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered in lieu of advanced degree. Experience: At minimum, three years of related experience required. Management Experience: At least one year of management experience is strongly preferred. Skills and Abilities: Position requires strong computer and public speaking skills, must have the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing, and be an effective leader. Must also have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well in an individual or team environment. The ability to balance multiple and sometimes competing priorities is essential. Experience with American Red Cross programs and services is strongly desired, as is familiarity with military culture, regulations and protocol.
