SR EEG Tech- Per Diem [EEG TCHNO SR PD]

The Senior EEG Tech works in the Neurodiagnostic/EEG department to provide care to adult and pediatric patients with a variety of medical (medical surgical, critical care, emergent, perioperative) needs. Patient conditions include epilepsy, altered level of consciousness, CVA (cerebrovascular accident), TIA (Transient Ischemic Attack), confusion, nonepileptic spells, seizures, and more. The Sr. EEG Tech functions under minimal supervision to safely operate and maintain multiple pieces of sophisticated medical equipment and all the technical aspects necessary to operate them efficiently. The Senior EEG Tech identifies and implements the proper Neurodiagnostic procedure for a wide variety of patient populations, acts as resource to other members of the EEG team as assigned and promotes compliance and support for policies.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Providing total, comprehensive, continuous, and patient centered care which includes assessing, documenting, planning, implementing
  • Performing the proper Neurodiagnostic Procedure (such as routine, ambulatory, and continuous long term EEG hookup/disconnect; live monitoring of continuous EEG studies, delivering direct patient care; ensuring patient satisfaction; and adhering to university policies and procedures as well as federal, state, and local regulations
  • Assess and provide Neurodiagnostic actions as appropriate for patient care populations based on competence, professional expertise, and knowledge
  • Practice autonomously consistent with ACNS Guidelines and ABRET Standards of Practice and Professional Performance
  • Independent judgment is expected to be exercised within the context of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches to patient care
  • Responsible for reporting any significant patient abnormalities in the diagnostic data to the appropriate physician
  • Responsible for performing all procedures in the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit, EEG Laboratory, and Epilepsy Surgery cases
  • Must be effective professional communicators

Minimum Qualifications

  • Registered EEG Technologist (R.EEG T)
  • American Heart Association CPR/BLS
  • Demonstrated recent 4 years of experience as an R.EEG Tech with an Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU)
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language
  • Ability to utilize medical terminology appropriately
  • Knowledge of current trends in Neurodiagnostic (EEG)
  • Commitment to excellence in patient care
  • Effective interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrates accountability and professionalism
  • Adapts to change in a positive, professional, and productive manner
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to measure, mark and apply electrodes utilizing the International 10/20 system
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology
  • Clinical experience/knowledge of procedures include the following: Routine EEG Examinations, Continuous Long-Term Monitoring (CLTM), Epilepsy Monitoring Unit EEG Monitoring (EMU (Epilepsy Monitoring Unit), In Lab Extended EEG Monitoring, Ambulatory outpatient EEG (hookup and disconnect), Phase I and Phase II set up, care, interventions/troubleshooting, and Continuous EEG Monitoring (EMU/LTM)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification for Long Term Monitoring (CLTM)
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Continuous EEG/Video monitoring in an Epilepsy Monitoring Unit
  • Evoked Potentials such as AEP, VEP, SSEP
  • ECOG, Laser ablation surgical monitoring, WADA, SPECT, Cortical Stim
  • Specific training recording WADA, ECOG, Phase II, intracranial EEG, EEG during Laser Ablation surgery, ABR, VEP, SSEP, SPECT, and other Neurodiagnostic testing as well as has extensive experience in pattern recognition and management of seizures in both the Phase I and Phase II epilepsy patient in the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit.

Department Description

The EEG Lab provides direct patient care to a diversified patient population, applies knowledge, experience, and judgment to determine the importance of a situation, set priorities, and use abstract thought to evaluate clinical situations. The EEG Lab participates in patient and staff education, demonstrates accountability for own practices as defined by ABRET. The EEG Lab monitors simultaneous EEG and video recording of seizures and various stimulation procedures in the EMU (Epilepsy Monitoring Unit), ICU (Intensive Care Unit), ED (Emergency Department), and makes the Sr. EEG Tech role more significantly demanding than in a routine EEG laboratory.
