Senior Scientist - Neurodegeneration

Job Description

150 million people. That's how many people worldwide are living with neurodegenerative diseases. Here, at the Neuroscience department at Novartis Institutes for Biomedical Research, we are looking for an experienced scientist to join a multidisciplinary team striven to improve the life and health of these patients.

What you'll be doing:
* Conceive, conduct, and analyze experiments to develop biochemical, cellular and functional assays to support drug discovery programs in Neuroscience.
* Handle rodents, including stereotactic surgeries
* Design and execute ex vivo assays including microscopy.
* Will also use In vitro and ex vivo CNS models, along with other molecular and cell biology techniques

Minimum requirements

What you'll bring to the role:
* Bachelor's degree in neuroscience, cell biology, biotechnology or related field with minimum 5 years of research experience, preferably in a pharma industry setting.
* Demonstrated expertise with cellular and molecular biology, biochemical techniques, assay development and mammalian cell culture
* Proficiency in rodent surgeries, handling rodent tissue samples and conducting microscopy assays.
* Candidate must be highly motivated with a collaborative mindset and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
* Master's degree in neuroscience, cell biology, biotechnology or related field with 3 years of industry or academic experience.
* Broad understanding in disease mechanisms and prior experience in neurodegeneration research is preferred.
* Prior experience with AAVs is a plus.

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $92,000 -139,000 /year; however, while salary ranges are effective from 1/1/23 through 12/31/23, fluctuations in the job market may necessitate adjustments to pay ranges during this period. Further, final pay determinations will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to geographical location, experience level, knowledge, skills and abilities.
The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an "at-will position" and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
