Accountant II (Hybrid Schedule)

Position Description

The position performs accounting/billing functions for multiple terminals in the Gulf Central Region, including but not limited to monthly customer billing, close process, AR Collections and other accounting duties as requested. This position is located in Houston and offers a hybrid schedule (Monday-Wednesday in office, Thursday and Friday working remotely) - please note that this is a pilot hybrid program. Additionally, we offer a 9/80 work schedule.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and review customer invoices ensuring completeness and contract compliance. Resolve discrepancies timely.
  • Review / analyze billing system for contracts, amendments and escalations set up accuracy.
  • Clear and resolve Trade Accounts Receivable (A/R) timely. Including contact customers for aged items and provide instructions for Cash Application.
  • Weekly reporting to document collections efforts. Discuss Trade A/R status with management.
  • Work with Operations and Commercial to ensure the accurate invoicing & collection issues.
  • Maintain SOX compliance and consolidate related documentation.
  • Assist with monthly Closing processing including revenue accruals, pre-invoice validation, journal entries, and draft variance explanations.
  • Analyze and prepare quarterly flux analysis on selected accounts as required.
  • Assist with internal and external audit requests.
  • Perform additional Ad Hoc duties as assigned.


Position Requirements

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting
  • 3-5 years' experience in an accounting-related position with strong knowledge of general accounting procedures
  • Must have strong computer skills, intermediate to advanced knowledge of Excel is mandatory.

  • Must have strong communication and organizational skills, the ability to prioritize work and to manage multiple demands and deadlines.
  • Must be self-motivated and detailed oriented with the ability to perform and meet deadlines.
  • Requires business writing & acumen in report writing and understand root causes in A/R issues
  • Must be able to work with a team, take direction from supervisor(s), focus attention on details, follow work rules, and adhere to established work schedules.
  • Overtime may be required during high volume periods (e.g., during close).
  • Must complete and pass any requirements by local, state or federal agencies and/or Kinder Morgan specific safety training as may be required at all Kinder Morgan locations.
  • Must pass a Kinder Morgan drug screen and background check prior to employment.
