Do you have a passion for public history and working with the public? Are you looking to be part of a growing local preservation program with a diverse inventory of sites that spans 300 years of history that caters to local residents, school groups, and visitors from around the world? Join the Prince William County Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism's Office of Historic Preservation. Qualified candidates will have experience with working at historic house museums or historic sites with an emphasis on U.S. and Virginia history. Experience in interpretation and volunteer management a plus, ability to work on a small but energetic and forward-looking team is a must. The Office of Historic Preservation manages 15 County owned historic sites and parks and averages nearly 150,000 visitors a year.

ABOUT THIS ROLE:
The Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism, Office of Historic Preservation manages and programs Prince William County's owned historic sites, including historic structures and historic landscapes. The Division also works with community partners on cultural resource protection issues.
The Historic Preservation Specialist will lead history tours of County owned historic sites, conduct history programs/events and research local history. Candidates should have experience in working with volunteers. A strong candidate will have experience in working with large tour groups and school groups.

PREFERENCES: The successful candidate will have:



  • Experience in conducting historic tours and programs
  • Candidate should have experience developing history programs and events
  • Working with large groups, tourism organizations and school groups a plus
  • Experience in interpretation and volunteer management a plus
  • Ability to work on a small but energetic and forward-looking team is a must.

SCHEDULE REQUIRMENTS:
This is a part-time position. Scheduling for this position requires flexibility to work some evenings and weekends each month.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The Department of Parks and Recreation conducts DMV record checks on all licensed employees and criminal background checks on all hires 18 years and older. Fingerprinting may be required.

ENTRY SALARY RANGE: $23.67 - $35.51 Hourly
