Our Mission: Prince William County Fire Marshal's Office is to prevent the inception of fire and hazardous conditions through timely and professional educational, enforcement, inspection, investigative and plans review efforts essential to the safety and well-being of the community. This is accomplished by 36 uniform and non-uniform personnel who are trained and certified to enforce a variety of fire prevention regulations to include the Uniform Statewide Fire Prevention Code. Additionally, on duty uniformed Fire Marshals provide coverage 24 hour 7 days a week to respond to and investigate code compliance, fire, explosive and environmental incidents.

ABOUT THIS ROLE: This Principal Fire Protection Engineer will:



  • Work with other Principle FPEs and Plan Reviewers to perform complex and intricate plan review of submitted Fire and Life Safety systems to include: Fire Alarm, Sprinkler, Clean Agent, and Kitchen Hood systems, as well as, providing expertise regarding Building Codes and referenced standards.
  • Be a valuable member of a comprehensive team approach to customer service, code compliance, and creative resolutions to challenges.
  • Provide guidance and recommendations to Fire & Rescue and Development Services senior leadership as a technical expert to the Building and Fire Code officials.

This senior engineering position in the FMO will take you to the next step in your career, offering expertise and insight related to complex fire alarm and sprinkler systems through plan review.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Requires a Bachelor's degree in Engineering and 4 years of related experience.

PREFERENCES:


  • Fire Protection Engineering degree with background in fire sprinkler system and fire alarm design and plan review.
  • Certified as a NFPA 1031 Inspector I/II and VA DHCD Fire Protection Systems Inspector.
  • Proficiency with electronic Plan Review Software


SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS: This is a 37.5 hours per week, full-time exempt position with working hours Monday-Friday 7:00am-3:30pm or 8:00am-4:30pm.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Background checks, which may include but are not limited to: Criminal History Check, Credit History Check, Education Verification Check, License Verification Check, and/or fingerprinting may be required as posted in the job advertisement.

Fire & Rescue Requirement: Effective October 2012, mandated by the Virginia State Board of Health 12VAC5-31-540, VA EMS Regulations require a criminal background check conducted by the Central Crime Records Exchange and the National Crime Information Center via Virginia State Police; and a driving record transcript from the individual's state Department of Motor Vehicles.

ENTRY SALARY RANGE: $79,009.00-$113,896.00 annually

Full-time and part-time Prince William County Government employees are eligible to participate in our plans; however, the level and cost of benefits depends on the classification of the position.
