Central Washington University is recruiting an AUAP Student Services Coordinator to join our AUAP team in Ellensburg, Washington. The Role:

The Student Services Coordinator facilitates the AUAP students' integration into campus and community life and helps to maintain the AUAP as an integral part of both the campus and community. This position works closely with other OISP and CWU staff members and reports to the AUAP Director. All employees are expected to support CWU's commitment to diversity and to bring and support inclusion into the university environment.

Job Duties

IPA Training & Supervision:
- Recruit, hire, train and supervise the International Peer Advisors (IPAs).
- Meet at least weekly with the IPAs to discuss students' well-being, plan activities, discuss concerns, monitor plans for IPA group activities, and provide ongoing training.
- Clearly defines performance expectations, ensures accountability, and provides ongoing informal feedback, coaching, and mentoring. Conducts formal performance evaluations.
- Ensures employees have necessary resources.
- Communicates information to staff on an ongoing basis to influence staff engagement and to be a part of a larger community.
- Takes corrective action in a timely manner.

AUAP student support and integration:
- Acts as a liaison and resource for students with questions or problems.
- Plan and coordinate the ongoing orientation class, Connections. Deliver content, arrange guest speakers, and give students important information for a safe and successful AUAP life.
- Serve as liaison between the AUAP and Office of Housing and New Student Programs (UHNSP) to promote the well-being of the AUAP students in the residence halls by providing orientation workshops for American roommates of AUAP students and ongoing support throughout the cycle, fostering cooperation between the IPAs and the residence hall staff teams so that student needs are met.
- Serve as liaison between the AUAP and UHNSP in order to ensure that room assignment of AUAP students are made in residence halls so that students are spread out and integrated into campus life; provide ongoing support to residence hall staff teams and AUAP students to resolve roommate conflicts and room changes; and coordinate, facilitate, and monitor the move of students into the Conference Center during winter break and into summer residence halls at the end of spring quarter.
- Assist in the planning and facilitation of Orientation Week and program-wide activities during each cycle.
- Serve as liaison between AUAP students and the Student Medical, Counseling, and Wellness centers, as well as community physicians, and provide assistance with translation during medical emergencies.
- Participate in CWU activities like Discover Orientation and Residence Hall staff training and provide information and support for students to be involved in activities like Intramural Sports, CWU clubs, bands, and so on.
- Coordinate the wi-fi setup and explanation of Resnet rules to AUAP students and provide on-going support for students with laptops, smartphones, and iPads; Coordinate with a wireless company to provide students with the option to purchase cell phones as needed.
- Provide support for AUAP students in preparation for returning to Japan by serving as liaison with the international transport company, providing residence hall check-out procedures including the recycling and reusing of goods, and facilitating the closing of campus and community accounts.
- Plan and coordinate student-funded group-wide activities.
- Serve as Advisor for the AUAP Friends Club and work closely with the SSA(s) to assist them in providing fun, integrative experiences for both AUAP and CWU students.
- Help direct the Student Services Assistant(s) in coordinating the Community Friends, Home Visit, and Campus Friends components of AUAP, which consists of recruiting American participants, providing orientation, matching students with American participants based on mutual interests, planning activities to promote interaction, monitoring progress of the relationships, and providing assistance to both Americans and AUAP students when cultural misunderstandings occur.
- Supervise the coordination of the volunteer component of the program. These activities involve close coordination with community or campus groups, arrangements for transportation, supplies and preparation for the activity. Three to four volunteer activities occur per week.
- Participate in AUAP classes and field trips as necessary.
- Attend AUAP weekly staff meeting and be involved with AUAP consortium meetings as needed.

Program Management:
- Helps create, maintain, and modify student record keeping systems.
- Helps prepare AUAP Student handbooks each cycle.
- Helps maintain student photos and media as needed.
- Prepares, compiles, and provides student information reports.
- Creates evaluations and provides reports on various program evaluations throughout each cycleCollaborate and assist with general OISP programs and provide support where needed.

- Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Experience with the following responsibilities involving college students:
    • Interpersonal counseling
    • Program coordination
    • Recruitment and training for student groups
  • Experience working with Japanese students
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with cross-cultural sensitivity;
  • A strong commitment to being a team member of a comprehensive international education services center, along with demonstrated ability to work with little supervision.
  • Valid Washington State Driver's License
  • Demonstrated ability and/or experience working with students and/or co-workers from a wide range of abilities, backgrounds and experiences
  • OR applicable combination of education and/or experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree
  • Japanese language proficiency
  • International experience such as studying, working, living or traveling abroad Experience working with international student programs or advising
  • Experience creating marketing materials
  • Experience or interest in mentoring students from a variety of backgrounds
  • Life experiences that demonstrate an ability to contribute to CWU's commitment to inclusion and diversity

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

Salary: $36,667 - $44,000 anually

Schedule/Appointment: Monday - Friday, 9:00am-6:00pm (1 hour lunch) / Some evening and weekend work / This grant funded position is currently funded through March 31, 2023. Continuation of this position past 03/31/2023 is contingent upon renewed funding being obtained.

Working Conditions: Work is performed in an indoor office setting with frequent in-person interactions. It is essential to be able to remain at a desk/computer work station for prolonged periods of time, perform extensive data entry and other computer-related tasks and create/maintain filing systems for departmental records. Some evening or weekend work and/or occasional travel may be required.

Office, indoor/outdoors, and driving CWU Motor Pool vehicles. This position requires some evening and weekend work and occasional travel. This position requires a cell phone to be carried at all times and to be on-call for emergencies 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
