Position Summary:

Applies professional knowledge or expertise in one or more specialty areas within EH&S and serves as lead person on one or more program(s) within a single discipline. Work is reviewed upon completion to ensure predetermined objectives are adequately met and that application of professional / technical judgment is sound. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Provides regulatory interpretation and technical advice. Decision-making is based on established procedures; relevant laws; regulations and organizational policy; professional best practices; impact on other EH&S programs, and management approvals as required. Decisions may impact individual work, other EH&S programs, other departments and / or segments of the organization. Under authority granted by the Office State Fire Marshal and under the direction of the Designated Campus Fire Marshal; conducts fire safety field inspections, reviews construction plans and material submittals for code compliance. Assists with other fire prevention projects and events as assigned.
Compensation Range:
$62,400 - $92,400

Required:
Two years of recent full-time experience performing a combination of fire prevention inspections, plan review services, or construction inspections for a California local or State entity with the responsibility for regulation enforcement of the Fire and Building codes.
California State Fire Marshal (CFSTES) Fire Inspector I Certification, or ICC Fire Inspector I, or equivalent. - Preferred
Thorough knowledge / understanding of specific EH&S field(s) including related laws and regulations; and general knowledge / understanding of all EH&S fields. Knowledge and skill in the application and interpretation of applicable state and federal laws and regulations including the Health and Safety Code, CCR Title 19 and 24, Uniform Building Code, Uniform Fire Code, and NFPA standards. Strong analytical and organizational skills to organize, prioritize and manage the successful completion of projects within time and budget constraints. Knowledge of fire hazards inherent in research and industrial processes. Demonstrated skill to read and interpret construction plans and specifications, fire protection shop drawings, hydraulic calculations, tools, safety equipment and instrumentation; Knowledge of construction methods, materials and assemblies. Thorough written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including political acumen and skill to communicate effectively in a diverse environment. Thorough knowledge and skill in applying and interpreting applicable local, state, and federal regulations and related standards and guidelines. Strong skill to appropriately use technology and relevant scientific equipment as required.
Preferred:
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.- preferred
Experience with fire protection systems design and installation requirements, testing and maintenance procedures and the ability to effect correction action.
Special Conditions Required:
Must be able to work outside of regularly scheduled shift Must have a valid CA Drivers License and participate in the DMV Pull-notice program Must be able to wear PPE Must comply with UC vaccine policy Must be able to work on-site
