Tax Analyst - Tax Operations Group

Position Description

Kinder Morgan is a Fortune 200 Company operating as one of the largest energy transportation and storage companies in the United Sates. Kinder Morgan has over 70 tax professionals working in Houston. As a member of the Kinder Morgan Tax Department, you will be part of a team of tax professionals responsible for all aspects of the company's tax posture. A Kinder Morgan Tax Analyst will be asked to perform the following job functions:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Preparation of the following types of tax returns: federal and state income tax returns, state franchise tax returns, and state independently procured insurance tax returns
  • Preparation of federal and state estimated payments and extensions
  • Preparation of state income and franchise cash tax budgets and projections
  • Assembling documentation used in state income and franchise tax audits and working with state taxing authority auditors to timely complete audits
  • Assist with preparation of ASC 740 documentation
  • Research of federal and state tax technical issues
  • Respond to notices from state taxing authorities


Position Requirements

Prospective job candidates will possess the following characteristics:

Minimum Job Requirements

Competencies, skills and abilities

Knowledge of unitary, nexus combined, and separate company state income tax computations and issues

  • Knowledge of state franchise tax computations and issues
  • Experience identifying, substantiating, and claiming state tax credits and incentives
  • Experience working with state tax auditors throughout the audit and appeals process
  • Familiarity with federal income tax concepts and the preparation of federal income tax returns
  • Previous experience with the ONESOURCE tax preparation software
  • Familiarity with the Checkpoint Research program
  • Extensive experience with Microsoft Excel
  • Knowledge of mid stream oil and gas operations
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to work on several projects simultaneously
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills

Experience

  • 3 to 5 years of experience at a public accounting firm or comparable experience working for a large corporate tax department

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting
  • Certified Public Accountant Preferred
