General Custodian – High School
Job Summary:
Under supervision of high school principal, the general custodian cleans and maintains the school building and grounds, sets up equipment for special events, and assists with school personnel with work requests.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent (preferred), or one to three months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Working knowledge of cleaning supplies and equipment required.
- Ability to read and understand instructions for cleaning, maintenance, and safety procedures
- Knowledge of minor repair techniques and building and grounds maintenance
- Ability to operate cleaning equipment and lift heavy equipment
- Ability to properly handle cleaning supplies
Summary of Responsibilities:
- Follow routine cleaning and maintenance procedures to maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency of building operations and grounds
- Maintain a cleaning schedule that will include cleaning of floors, chalkboards, marker boards, wastebaskets, windows, furniture, equipment, and restrooms
- Keep school building and grounds neat and clean, including: sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, and play areas
- Assist in maintaining an inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment and request additional supplies as needed
- Regulate heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to provide appropriate temperatures and ensure economical usage of fuel, water, and electricity
- Make minor building repairs as needed and report major repair needs to principal
- Assist with cafeteria and other room set up, including moving and arranging tables, chairs, and equipment as directed by principal
- Assist in setting up facilities for special events
- Perform preventive maintenance to ensure the comfort, health, and safety of students and staff
- Assist with opening and closing building each school day
- Responsible for security in assigned areas
- Daily check lights, water faucets and gas outlets before leaving assigned area;
- Report unsafe conditions or needed repairs to proper personnel.
Salary Schedule:
Salary is based on district schedule, plus consideration of work-related experience. This is a 12-month, employee-at-will position. Full employee Wall ISD benefits.
Working Hours:
Most job duties will consists of 8-hour days between 7: 00 AM – 5: 00 PM with occasional duties after school hours at school functions.
