Director of Management Information Systems
Ferrum College, located at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Ferrum, Virginia, is looking for an enthusiastic and inquisitive person to enhance our management tools as Director of Management Information Systems. This individual is responsible for aligning management software with College priorities in order to translate insights into action. As Director of Management Information Systems, you will provide technical and programming expertise to support academic, administrative and student computing needs. Excellent communications skills are required for result focused collaboration with various constituencies on campus to develop processes for data collection and analysis from the management software.
Specific duties include: • Serve as chief system administrator for the College's management software systems and ensure adequate security and timeliness of upgrades/patches. • Ensure transition of Ellucian software from on premises to managed cloud on time and within budget. This transition includes the "Experience" platform, data analytics, and integration of other platforms • Responsible for ensuring that backups of the central database/system are occurring and periodically test recovery of back-ups a minimum of 1 time per month as long as the administrative software is on premises. If administrative software is off premises, request periodic reporting of results of similar testing. • Ensure that the appropriate documentation of routine tasks associated with the operation of the management software (account maintenance, backups, and system startup/shutdown) are established and updated as needed for on premises or cloud software. • Develop data analytics reports using administrative software tools as well as outside resources to support strategic decision making by various areas on campus. • Serve as a representative on the Information Services Advisory Council in order to provide insight and be informed of 3rd party software requests. Provide the committee with the feasibility of interfacing 3rd party software with management software or offering alternatives if solution already exists within current software. • Regularly evaluate the general computing needs of all administrative users and recommend solutions and standards consistent with the departmental and College mission. • Direct projects required to interface additional 3rd party software the management software and maintain those interfaces. • Ensure that user accounts for the administrative application and email are established in an efficient and timely manner for all constituencies of the college (employees, students, alumni) • Develop and maintain business continuity plan for administrative computing. • Assure adequate training of administrative users in the use of computing tools. • Work with the Director of Networking and Computer Services to provide resources and FAQs to users via Information Services website. • Foster a widespread awareness of good computer ethics within the campus community. • Manage the Administrative Computing budget for the campus. • Provide system analysis and programming as required. • Serve on organized or ad hoc committees as necessary to gain awareness of campus initiatives and feasibility for such initiatives.
Qualifications include: 1. BS in Computer Science 2. 3+ years in an IT management position with budget responsibility 3. Exceptional communication skills that translates technical jargon to user language. This position requires forward facing interaction with internal customers and external vendors. 4. Proficiency in modern script and coding languages 5. 3+ years developing data analytics 6. 3+ years of working experience in IT project management as well as technical & strategic planning 7. 3+ years of working experience as a business systems analyst for enterprise solutions 8. Must have knowledge about data integration best practices, structured & unstructured data and hands-on experience with integration technologies and architecture 9. Functional understanding of RES Tful APIs 10. Experience in Rest API tools like Postman 11. Preferred qualifications include: 1. Masters in Computer Science/Data Analytics 2. Experience in higher education 3. Experience with Ellucian Colleagues
