Information Technology Services (ITS) at Old Dominion University is seeking a full-time Geospatial Developer-Analyst (GDA) to work closely with faculty, staff, and stakeholders to implement successful geospatial projects and innovative applied research. The GDA develops data, maps, web applications, visualizations, and reports for university administration and high-profile research projects (e.g., recurrent flooding, resilience, health sciences, renewable energy, and maritime). The GDA provides targeted technical consulting in support of the university’s academic GIS laboratories and widely dispersed GIS software user community. The GDA also creates and conducts workshops related to in-demand geospatial skills, tools, and techniques. Limited travel may be required for logistical support (e.g., field data collection, GPS, UAVs, project development, and presentations).
Required qualifications include:
- Considerable knowledge of Geography/GIS/Cartography.
- Considerable knowledge of Arc Map, Arc GIS Pro, Arc GIS Online, Erdas Imagine, and other advanced GIS software packages.
- Considerable skill in creating and editing GIS data, conducting geospatial analysis, and developing both digital and print map products.
- Considerable knowledge of complex remote sensing, lidar, and elevation data.
- Considerable knowledge of cloud-based GIS and skill in developing web GIS products.
- Familiarity with the installation and maintenance of hardware and software systems that support Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
- Familiarity with GIS hardware-software integration (e.g., GNSS, UAV, LiDAR, and other sensors).
- Ability to interact with the university community across multiple disciplines to evaluate GIS needs and instruct faculty and staff on GIS technology.
- Demonstrated ability to research, learn, and apply cutting edge GIS tools and methods to university projects and research.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage time efficiently.
- Strong written and oral communications skills.
Preferred qualifications include:
- B.S. or M.S. in geography, cartography, GIS, computer science, engineering or related technical discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Some experience with raster data manipulation, geovisualization, and geospatial modeling is strongly preferred.
- FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot certification is preferred.
- Familiarity with at least one of the following specialties is preferred: coastal hazards/resilience, health sciences, maritime infrastructure/planning.
- Familiarity with application of scripting languages/environments (e.g., Python, R, Jupyter) to spatial problems is preferred.
