About the Job

The Herman-Darrow Human Neuroscience lab at the University of Minnesota departments of Psychiatry and Neurosurgery are seeking a lab manager to supervise lab members, organize research projects, manage human research protocols, and complete regulatory requirements for research related to neuromodulation.

The Herman-Darrow lab investigates the neural dynamics of decision making in humans and translates findings into novel approaches for therapeutic neuromodulation in Parkinson's disease, epilepsy, addiction, depression and chronic pain.

Lab methods: Intracranial electrophysiology, non-invasive brain stimulation (transcranial magnetic stimulation), signal processing, clinical research, statistics. Over time, you will be expected to become familiar with these methods at both a conceptual and technical level.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:
30% Coordinates PI schedules, studies, locations, and participants & patients. This involves identifying potential study needs, arranging for lab space and personnel to staff the study, directing staff work and gathering/analyzing data collected.

30% Regulatory management for studies, Study-creation and internal/external IRB submission and communication; internal audits, study site initiations, and monitoring.

20% Supervision, onboarding, training, hiring and interviewing lab staff, students, and post-docs

10% Data collection with patient and participants

5% Consenting, coordination, recruitment and marketing communicating with patient and participants for multiple studies.

3% Marketing, inter-lab collaborations and podcasts website, media, networking, scheduling

2% Grants, grant writing

Qualifications

All required qualifications must be documented on application materials

Required Qualifications:

  • BA/BS plus at least two years of experience, or a combination of education/experience totaling at least six years.
  • Ability to develop new study criteria and maintain studies for multiple researchers including internal and external IRBs, data collection, management and organization, regulatory and GCP.
  • Ability to coordinate studies between lab study team and locations like the CRU, CMRR, NNL lab, CSC and patients & participants for industry-leading studies and U of MN Investigator-initiated studies. This also includes marketing for studies using podcasts, social media and website management, in addition to supervising study staff and doing workforce planning based on study needs.

Our labs form parts of the MnDrive Neuromodulation program, the Medical Discovery Team on Addiction and the Center for Magnetic Resonance Research. We also participate in a growing Computational Psychiatry community on campus. We collaborate with labs in the Neuroscience, Neurology and Bioengineering departments.
