Washington State University is seeking to fill several full-time positions for the GEAR UP federal grant program. GEAR UP is funded by the Department of Education whose purpose is to increase the number of low-income and underrepresented students who graduate from high school and successfully complete post-secondary education. Financial Literacy Coordinator | Remote/Hybrid | Richland, WA Summary of Duties: The Financial Literacy Coordinator is responsible for the development and maintenance of effective college readiness strategies, programs, and services for the One Vision Partnership (OVP V) grant. Will provide training and professional development opportunities to Site Managers and Academic/Achievement Specialists at designated partner sites. The Coordinator will provide comprehensive curriculum, content, materials, and programming that support academic, career, financial literacy and parent engagement. Position will provide mentoring and advising to students, parents, staff, and school partners. W Ill research and identify resources for managers; deliver training to staff in individual or group settings as needed. Position will be part of the GEAR UP OVP leadership team providing recommendations to the Program Director and Regional Managers on outreach efforts, operational effectiveness, identify areas in need of enhancement and/or support, and provide coordination of workshops, trainings, events, etc. The Coordinator is the key resources for data collection, reporting, documentation of GEAR UP activities and is responsible for developing an annual work plan that documents activities which meets the goals and objectives of the GEAR UP One Vision Partnership (OVP V) grant. Financial Literacy/ College Access Coordinator | Remote/Hybrid | Richland, WA Summary of Duties: The Financial Literacy/College Access Coordinator is responsible for the development and maintenance of effective college readiness strategies, programs, and services for the One Vision Partnership (OVP IV) grant. Will lead others in coordinating and implementing retention efforts for the GEAR UP class of 2023/2024 while in their first year of college. This position will serve as the subject matter expert and provide training and professional development opportunities for staff. The Coordinator will develop comprehensive curriculum, content, materials and programming that support academic, career, financial literacy and parent/student engagement. Will provide recommendations to the Program Director on outreach efforts, operational effectiveness, identifying areas in need of support and providing coordination and leadership of events, programming, financial literacy workshops, etc. Responsibilities include but are not limited to, providing college-going information for students/parents; identifying college resources for student support; implementation of mentoring programs; advising and training GEAR UP Site Managers on retention efforts; monitoring and evaluating student services and effectiveness; develop and implement strategic communication/outreach plan with targeted colleges, mentors and college resources. Will develop and maintain relationships with partnering schools, colleges, and will serve as a key resource for data collection and reporting that meet the goals and objectives of the OVP IV grant. Academic Specialist - Ochoa Middle School | Pasco, WA Summary of Duties: WSU Tri-Cities Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP) is funded with federal funds by the Department of Education whose purpose is to increase the number of low-income and underrepresented students who graduate from high school and successfully complete post-secondary education. The Academic Specialist has responsibility for using professional judgement and skills to increase GEAR UP students’ academic performance through direct tutoring and developing student’s positive academic behaviors and non-cognitive skills; mentoring and advising students to increase college and career readiness; guiding students with college and career exploration, plan and supervise field trips to college campuses, work as a team with GEAR UP staff, classroom teachers, counselors, and administrators to analyze student data and use instructional tools and methodologies that are consistent with district interventions to achieve grant outcomes. The Academic Specialist will monitor, collect, and document student data for assessment and reporting requirements. Fiscal Specialist - GEAR UP | Remote/Hybrid | Richland, WA Summary of Duties: The Fiscal Specialist position provides a variety of complex financial and personnel support functions including analysis, development, processing, and reporting under general direction from the GEAR UP Program Director at WSU Tri-Cities. Will provide recommendations for fiscal record keeping improvements and serve as the point of contact for inquiries related to program budget allocations, expenditures, reconciliations, compliance with departmental, institutional, state and/or grant agency policies, rules, and regulations.
